The song Time on My Hands always moves me somehow even when I'm only obliquely hearing it in the background as I do something else. I wonder what it's power is.

An interesting thread about one of my favourite pieces, premiered 100 years ago today. Like all formative moments in life I remember the very first time I heard it - in a music lesson with Mr Herbert @WestleyMiddle when I was 12. Thanks Mr Herbert!

Feb. 12, 1924: George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” is performed for the first time. The landmark blend of classical and jazz sounds is part of an “Experiment in Modern Music” concert. From the opening clarinet glissando, an audience in New York’s Aeolian Hall is enthralled. 1/6

Counting down to #ValentinesDay with our playlist. What better song for a Saturday matinee than a great song inspired by a great film? Kit Hesketh-Harvey & James McConnel's Casablanca performed by @CassSONGS & @chrisbrannick Listen ♥️⬇️ https://t.co/eiP76t2Ds8

I once did a pretty good impression of Tommy Handley in a stage adaptation of Second to Last in the Sack Race some years ago (I was playing a wireless, in case you ask). Sadly, not a single person there was sufficiently au fait with Tommy to enjoy the facsimile. Oh well.

And now I'm thinking of Tommy Handley, I find the phrase "Unhand me, Major Brandy-balls" has come into my mind and I am glad it did.

Today our #ValentinesDay song is all about obsession, and comes from @CassSONGS' Modernist musical #TwoTigers. This version was recorded by Sharp Practise for @BBCRadio2 Listen to 'Can't get him out of my mind' ❤️‍🔥⬇️ https://t.co/PIpUEeDHd4

One of my absolute favourite songs! I still thank my lucky stars for the time I decided to go to a midnight cabaret at the @edfringe where I heard it for the first time - which in turn led me to the superlative @CassSONGS. My life has always been the better for it.

This is very sad - he did everything from G&S to Sondheim, and always brilliantly - and he got all the musical numbers on TW3 that didn't go to Millicent Martin.

Sad to hear the news that David Kernan, a long-standing patron of the @SondheimSociety, has died at the age of 85. Did so much to popularize Steve's work in the UK and beyond. RIP, David

Punctuation is very important. I was rather shocked to be copied into an email from a work colleague yesterday that said "Charles I will send you the document". Unless Cromwell intercepts it, of course.
