Kerry Dalbey, Mason Kopf and Lindsey Phillips were officially sworn in during the MCSD's second Board of Education meeting on Monday night. Lindsey was re-elected to her second four-year term earlier this month. Kerry and Mason are newly elected board members.

Monday was the final Muscatine Community School District Board of Education meeting for outgoing board members Matt Conard & Ken LaRue. They served on the Board the past four years. Matt & Ken each received a plaque and a lifetime activities pass from Supt. Clint Christopher.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday at the Ag Learning Center for its Small Animal Project Barn. This is a new addition that provides increased lab space with safer & easier to use equipment in a flexible environment. The barn cost $400,000 -- covered through donations.

Susan Clark Junior High's 8th grade girls basketball team hosted Davenport Wood Middle School on Thursday afternoon. The Muskies hung around early before Wood Middle School pulled away for a 36-20 victory. SCJH is back at home on Monday to face Pleasant Valley's White Squad.

We checked in on Ms. Poor's kindergarten class at Mulberry on Wednesday morning during STEAM time with Mrs. Keltner. Students used an assortment of blocks to build objects and see if they could keep them balanced. Afterward, they discussed what blocks were easiest to balance.

Muscatine High School's girls swim team qualified four events (two relays, two individual) for Thursday and Friday's state meet in Iowa City. We stopped by practice this week to chat with the qualifiers about regionals and this week's state meet. Best of luck, swimmers!

McKinley held its third annual Family STEAM Night on Thursday. This year's theme was "Everglow Forest." There were more than 20 stations for students and families to explore, including Castle Engineering, Dragon Races, Fairy Light Circuits, Rainbow Science & Wes The Balloon Guy.

We had an opportunity to stop in and see Miss Kasey and Miss Rylee's 3-year-old students at the Muskie Early Learning Center on Thursday afternoon. There was story time & snacks along with working on letters during our visit. 'U' was the letter of the day in Miss Kasey's class.

As a culmination of its Ancient Greece unit in reading, Madison Elementary second-grade students held the Potato Olympics on Tuesday. They used potatoes for different activities after learning about the original Olympics during their reading lessons. They had fun winning medals.

The Susan Clark Jr. High 7th grade girls basketball team opened its season Monday at home. Walcott Intermediate defeated SCJH, 31-23. Coached by Terry Youngbauer and Brendan Nagel, SCJH showed some good moments. The Muskies are back at home on Nov. 20 against Bettendorf Gold.

The MHS Model UN Club attended the Iowa Youth Symposium in Des Moines this week. The symposium brought together 389 students from 23 Iowa high schools. Senior Mohit Wani was chosen as the "Distinguished Delegate" for the political committee. The Muskies had 24 students attend.
