Using anchor charts, Ss brainstormed adjectives, adverbs, and strong verbs for a picture prompt (descriptive writing unit). Once they brainstormed 3 words each, they used the computer to get more specific, descriptive words. Looking forward to seeing their initial paragraphs!

In preparation for our partner reading/repeating reading fluency practice, we read Wolf! to discuss the qualities of a good reader. Ss were extremely perceptive about the journey Wolf made to become a proficient reader. They also noticed the support he received to reach his goal.

Ss paired up and sorted reading responses in our unit on making judgements. They determined which responses were a level 1, 2, 3, and 4. They also wrote qualities of strong samples to construct our success criteria. Ss need to co-create the SC to take ownership of their learning.

Working with my grade 5s on when to use AI responsibly: research = reputable websites; quick, kid-friendly definitions = AI. With the right prompt, AI can simplify what online dictionaries and thesauruses make too complex.

Today we had a transformation from classroom to hospital. Students became doctors for the morning to do their rounds. Linking in with our science unit for body systems, Ss had an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real world context.

Students guessed how long the small intestine is in a 10-year-old child. Their guesses ranged from 1 m to 10 m. Most were surprised to learn itβs actually about 5 m long, and they were able to visualize that length using a garden hose. #Science

Ss learned a new boardgame which is closely related to chess and requires a lot of strategy. Best part: it's a game from 1975 that I bought from thrifting in the summer. #priceless #DuellBoardGame #strategy

Ss made models of lungs today; no action shots because it was a really busy afternoon. Lots of help needed for knots, stretching, and taping, but they turned out great. #STEMeducation
