If you are in Charlottesville the evening of 4/7 and don’t have plans, GO SEE Twelfth Night at UVA Dept of Drama. It’s easily my favorite thing they’ve ever done and one of the best nights I’ve had at the theater.

I found out recently that you have to be <40 join the national bone marrow registry. Only a few years left for me! My dad’s cousin, age 61, died of leukemia earlier this year. He had a bone marrow transplant that gave him 5 more years, and he met his first grandson. #BeTheMatch

I’m grateful for Virginia Family Therapy sharing this guide on talking about the UVA shooting with children. School is cancelled and kids in the community will find out one way or another. @k_scottbell and I are trying to figure out how to do this now.

I had Japanese curry rice 🍛 for lunch for the past three days (first time this year I brought it) and each day, the same student has informed me that the classroom smells like hamsters 🐹 after lunch. What?!

Spot-on. At least I’m meeting with people I like, and hopefully we’ll have fun together. But it is very much like being in meetings all day.
For non-teaching friends who don't understand why teaching is so stressful, imagine this scenario. You have to run meetings all day long. You get virtually no time to prepare for the meetings. During the meetings, there are 30 people in the room who are forced to be there. 2/

Question for Charlottesville people or medical professionals: Neeley and I saw a car crash this morning and helped the man who was hit. We know he’s in the hospital in stable condition. Is it ok to try to visit him or send a card? We don’t have his last name.

At least CCS has begun to address the problem. I’m calling on the ACPS school board to do the same on 10/27. Especially considering the recent report on student achievement—there’s not a lot teachers can do if kids are missing school.

They learned from last year and made a change. They even have EXTRA drivers!

2014: https://t.co/M4OX0Kt8Bu (to be fair, not ACPS, but a sign that area schools were having transportation issues almost 10 years ago)

(Now that article doesn’t specifically address driver “shortages,” but it does mention some transportation woes that may have compounded long term. Did funding ever recover to pre- global financial crisis levels? I am curious)
