We loved using manipulatives to explore the relationship between multiplication and division with equal groups in our first math topic. When given a total number of erasers students were asked to share them equally & then to find another way to equally group them @PS66JKO

Area of an irregular shape has been a challenge for us in third grade so we took a different approach today and worked with our PODs. We had so much fun and learned from each other! @PS66JKO

Elapsed time is no challenge for us! We worked in randomized groups to solve the 3 separate parts of a word problem. We weren’t given the next step until we explained our thinking aloud to a teacher. We loved exploring so many wonderful strategies in our gallery walk! @PS66JKO

We then worked together to round those students with a blue post it up to the next ten or back down to lower ten. Each blue post it then belonged to a multiple of 10 to show rounding. @PS66JKO

Today we took an activity from the @D27NYC math ambassador meeting & modified it to work for our rounding lesson. Students with an orange post it acted as multiples of 10. Those with a blue post it had to place themselves in the correct spot on the number line.

A week off gave us even more reason to practice our multiplication fluency centers. Today we introduced two new centers into our rotation and had so much fun competing to find the multiples of 3 @PS66JKO
