This!🙌 The magical feeling that always makes the end of a school year bittersweet. So many skills, expectations, and relationships fall into place. So much fun and laughter fuel the end of the year excitement. I'm so glad to be able to experience it again!

5 years ago I joined teacher Twitter with the hopes of connecting with science teachers to learn more about how they implement the #NGSS in their classrooms. I am so thankful for the PLN I have built here- I continue to learn so much & you inspire me! #MyTwitterAnniversary

Today we talked about high school options and I love to discuss what students are wondering about life. We got on the topic of figuring out my route in college and they said they were so happy I was their teacher and glad I chose to be a teacher. I’m SO thankful to teach them! ❤️

Great conversations tonight! Thanks to all of the teacher leaders and @dmoralesdoyle for the awesome insight. My wheels are turning with ideas for the future 💭

We’ve been having a blast modeling and improving our understanding of the states of matter and the phase changes using Expo markers and Play - Doh! The unique approach each student takes to modeling and showing their understanding always inspires me.

Every year when introducing the periodic table, students shriek & ask if they need to memorize it. My answer is always NO!! I want them to understand how to use the table as a tool to quickly grasp many properties about each element. We're playing Element Eye Spy tomorrow! #chem

I’m so excited to start featuring a scientist each month! Yes the board DOES light up!! Did you know that 90% of all scientists who ever lived, are alive today?! Science is growing more than ever, so why do we only know the names of a small handful of scientists? #WomenInSTEM

Talk about an (i)nside look 😳
In #googleDrive get in the habit of pressing the letter i. You can see if a student did all the edits a few minutes before class or if they worked on it over time. https://t.co/oYXOhYrVRn

This year has been much more overwhelming and draining than I anticipated (how is it only mid- October?!) It’s getting little things like this over the weekend that keep me going ❤️ #teachertwitter

The past few classes, students in Applied Physics & Engineering learned the importance of measurement in all aspects of engineering. We learned how to measure accurately with a ruler and calipers, then we modeled the objects on paper and included their dimensions! #engineering

Great workshop at @QVCC with a hands-on parametric modeling activity. I had lots of fun & ended up designing a measuring lesson for my Applied Physics & Engineering class! Students will use a ruler & digital calipers to measure & then create a sketch with dimensions of a design!

An incredible week in the lab @UConn working with a PhD student who is developing wearable sensors to monitor symptoms in COVID patients. Learning how to create & utilize the sensors was so powerful. #Engineers are tackling this pandemic right along with healthcare professionals.

I had a blast learning with the DaVinci Program last week @UConnEngineer. We modeled tissue mechanics & talked cross linking, viscosity, & fluidity using different oobleck concentrations in the biomechanics lab. I’ll definitely be creating a similar lesson for my classes! @UConn

This week marks the beginning of the Joule Fellows Program at @UConn! I am so excited to be back at one of my favorite places learning about cutting-edge research. Today I even got to try soldering a few resistors on a pressure sensor component! @UConnEngineer #Engineeeing

Finishing off the school year with testing our marshmallow launchers in this heat! We calculated the speed of the marshmallows & applied our knowledge of forces, energy, and Newton’s laws to understanding how launchers work. #NGSS #Engineering #HEATWAVE

My day has been made. You can now bold, italicize, underline, and create a pointed list in @google classroom!! It’s the little things 😊. #thanksgoogle #GoogleClassroom

I continue to think about the different ways #NGSS modeling can be presented to students, especially those w/ unique learning needs. Here’s a new idea I’m trying this week. Students are given a blank model & strips of paper w/ essential questions to organize & answer on the model

A remote snow day couldn’t stop our experiments today! Students viewed the Food Coloring in Hot vs. Cold water experiment virtually. They recorded observations & made simple models in Kami. I also presented a Jamboard and we created a class consensus model. #NGSS #ScienceFromHome
