The magnificent @APSMAJ_Elem faculty and staff returned today ready for the start of the new school year. It was a day full of excitement as we reflected, set goals, and made plans to ensure that our scholars will R.I.S.E. across the board!!

Help me give my students a set of picture books and chapter books for the 2025-2026 Picture Book Reading Bowl and Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl book competitions.

Earlier this week it was so hot I could barely breathe outside. Today there was a meteor (that I thankfully missed) and later a 10-minute hailstorm. the wind, rain, and hail combo had me speechless. This was the wildest weather week ever.

Day 1: Today, I presented at the Georgia Library Media Association's Summer Institute in Savannah, Georgia! I shared how @streamyardapp and @canva are used to create student-led daily morning news broadcasts at @APSMAJ_Elem! @APSMediaServ

Well year 18 is a wrap!! I've had many roles in many schools but being the media specialist (and sponsor of the Broadcast Team, Beta Club, Picture Book and Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Teams) @APSMAJ_Elem is by far my favorite!

In 2016, three years after leaving middle school, I heard my name called in the mall. It was one of my favorite middle school students. Nine years later I've attended many of her performances and all her graduations! Yesterday Skyler "mastered it". Congrats!

Tonight, @APSMAJ_Elem held a camping themed literacy night! Students and parents enjoyed a camp meal, Novel Effect read alouds, a book tasting, phonics stations, a visit from the local @fulcolibrary, and the greatest forever book giveaway ever!!

The @DogwoodLinks also supported @APSMAJ_Elem K-2 scholars with early literacy skills. They work with small groups twice a month and provide healthy snacks to our scholars! Thank you for your continued support! #ReadAcrossAmericaWeek

I am so grateful for our MLK Service Day volunteers. Labeling and Weeding books can be a daunting task, but the students at @APSMAJ_Elem deserve the very best, a collection of new and engaging books!
