Due to the changes on Twitter/X, I no longer use it as a primary way to promote our department and related news. We are still doing a LOT of things! Check out website or newsletters for more info!

For the Class of 2024: watch your mailbox next week! Transcripts have been double-checked and prepared for mailing. Rising seniors will receive a copy, with unweighted GPA and decile rank. Hope you’re enjoying the summer!

Old news, but I forgot to tweet it— our office celebrated the Class of 2023 with this window display! Each senior wrote their name and where they’re going on sunglasses. As counselors, we are honored to share in their journey to post-secondary success!

Interesting update for our juniors from FairTest— 80+% of 4 yr colleges are test-optional for 23-24 cycle, AND less than 25% of merit scholarships consider SAT scores. The prospect of merit aid sometimes pushes students to test, but this new info says it may not be necessary.

Today, counselors got the green light to meet with students to make fixes to schedules for next year. Students, we know you’re done with finals and you’re ready to be done done, but please check your email to see if your counselor needs to meet with you!

We are in the home stretch! One more day of finals tomorrow, then a make-up day on Tuesday! Students are so close to summer break! (Counselors not so much with our extra days, but we’ll get there!)

We’ve been talking to our students about this for the last six months. Test-optional admissions is the new norm. Strong test scores can still be a boon to your application, but if you aren’t a strong tester, don’t fret!

According to @FairTestOffice’s list of 4-year colleges & universities with ACT/SAT-optional or Test-Free Testing policies, 1,900 colleges are not mandating students to submit SAT or ACT scores for Fall 2023. https://t.co/T9TuOYD30D @HigherEdDive #testoptional #collegeadmissions

With the new W2 scheduling tool, counselors are trying out some small-group (optional) workshops. We held a Common App workshop on Monday, and we’ll be hosting a college essay workshop on Friday. Juniors who want to get a jump start on their college prep. are invited to attend!

Finally finished! I’ve had this on my reading list for a few years and I finally trudged through it over the last couple months. It’s not one you can bounce through while only half-paying attention. The sad, but expertly told story of a quadruple murder in rural Kansas in 1959.
