ELA 9 had a strong end to the week with a scholar-led Socratic discussion. Scholars’ mastery was to speak 3 times, involve a peer, and use 1+ pieces of text evidence. We focused on characterization and emerging themes; kiddos crushed it! #goWitch

This week’s focal areas are: tone, structure, perspectives, and POV. Today we did a jigsaw reading analysis to begin unpacking how tone shifts, and what this does for a text. This will lead kiddos to a Socratic discussion this week, and section 3 diagnostic next week!

This week’s focus is identifying how descriptive language communicates setting, plot, and characterization. Scholars used last week’s poem to analyze shared traits with the novel, gathered evidence, and engaged in writing workshops to build and refine our responses. #goWitch

I self-admittedly LOVE data, & scholars’ vocab is a prime example why. Kiddos took this assessment Monday; by Wednesday, I was able to run small reteach groups based on the data patterns so they can reassess and grow, instead of a stagnant low grade. #goWitch

My favorite moment of this week was hearing at Meet The Teacher night how many kiddos are talking about ELA 1 at home. Brings me so much joy to know kids are enjoying their learning—esp when it might not have been a subject they previously liked.
