Your kiddo is AWESOME! emails. I try to send out at least 2 of these parent-contact emails each day. I put “Your kiddo is AWESOME!” in the subject line. The bulk of it is a form email. At the end, I always include a personalized touch (in bold). #Project180

VPS athletics united in sportsmanship across the district. Kudos to the team for the vision and execution behind this video!
In Vancouver Public Schools, we are united in sportsmanship! Students from each of the 4 comprehensive high schools put rivalries aside to encourage good fan, coach, and athlete behavior at our sporting events in a series of videos. Here's the first entry!

"It is hard 'human work' not to react. Such toil takes tools." Meeting kids where they are includes how we respond (not react) when we engage their behaviors. My wife's and my evolving idea of using "Response Cards" with our students this year. Detailed blog post tomorrow!

It takes a monster to kill children. But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity—it’s inhumanity.

My son’s teacher showed up at our house after school today to purchase from his “origami stand” that is a fundraiser for his STEM project in her 5th grade class. Everyone, please thank a teacher today. 👏🏼

In my struggle to reconcile the IT’S ALL ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS pressure of teaching 160 students/year, I’ve decided they DON’T all need a relationship from me — they just need to feel like they could if they needed it.
Teachers, please listen. ESPECIALLY if you teach high school. Some kids are there to get the grade and leave. They do not want a relationship with you. That is okay. Respect their autonomy as human beings and let them decide how much they want to open up to you.

If administrators take primary responsibility for handling conflict and discipline, restorative practices can be undermined because a key relational party—the teacher—isn't involved in dialogue and decisions, say @DFISHERSDSU & @NancyFrey. Read more: https://t.co/VwvTawYyVA

@_CrystalMWatson I reframe classroom management as relationship development. How might I manage my time, space, words, & actions to build authentic relationships with my students? When I do have to focus on behavior, it is within the context of relationship rather than just behavior compliance.
