It’s Medical Magic day at @RyonMiddle ! In my class, we’re learning about the heart and practicing CPR. We have some amazing Health Science students from @WeAreGRHS leading and teaching us today!

I just finished reading ‘Out of my Mind’ by Sharon Draper- highly recommend. I cried tears of joy and of frustration/anger. It’s a wonderful book. I love that I get to read books and make recommendations to my district’s Novel Committee @JulieMcGuane @beckypuste

I like Venn Diagrams because they’re a great way for students to compare/contrast ideas or characters. My students love them when they get to make diagrams using plates, get to lay on the floor and have great discussions with their partner! @RyonMiddle

An egg relay to test your knowledge? Sign me up! They had fun answering questions and performing silly tasks. My favorite eggs included instructions to scream that I was their favorite teacher - I may have made them repeat that a lot 😂 @RyonMiddle

It was a great day creating a Starbooks Cafe for our kiddos! They spent time reading books, working on figurative language and even text structure. The day was made even better by getting to partner with @AbbyKettler to bring this to our students!

I received an email from a student this morning, thanking me for encouraging her to read because she used to hate it. I’ve kept it together these last few weeks, but not today. Her email made me cry and I haven’t stopped. All sorts of emotions going on.

It’s Spring Break here and I love getting to spend time with my daughters (12 and 9). Today we went to the Holocaust Museum of Houston. What an emotional visit that sparked great conversation with my girls. Never forget. Never again.

I just ran into one of my students from last year! I love randomly seeing them around town (this time at a coffee shop), getting a hug and a chance to see how they are doing. Made my day.

We LOVE our principal enough to duct tape her to the wall! Students paid $1 for the opportunity to tape @sonyajsanzo to the wall during lunches today. This event brought in $509 to our fundraiser, Pennies for Patients @LLSusa . It's not too late to contribute!

We’re reading Refugee for a book club. One of my students, who only reads graphic novels, came walking down the hall today READING Refugee. He ❤️’s the book and has already made it our reading goal for NEXT Friday. #mydayiscomplete

One of my students asked me if the profile picture I’m using on my class web page is an old picture. It’s maybe 2-3 years old? I guess I’ve hit the time in my life when you can change (age) a lot in 2 years 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️. Nothing like working with 11-12 year olds to keep you humble 😂.

The last thing I really have time for, especially at the start of the school year, is a new puppy. But, when you can rescue an 11 week puppy found dumped in a field, how do you say no? To know me is to know I ❤️ dogs. Meet Zoey. #rescued

On Friday I conferenced with one of my reluctant readers. We brainstormed different ways to make reading enjoyable. It was a great talk - he then participated in class like never before. I went home and cried happy tears and emailed his mom to praise him! #relationshipsmatter

I have a waiting list for Refugee! My students love this book and it’s a personal favorite of mine. My first book talk of the year was about Refugee. I’m about to buy some extra copies!
