We often punish behaviour without taking the time to look beneath the surface. When we try to figure out what the behaviour is communicating this will help us support the behaviour, provide the repair work which is far better than punitive reactions.🧠🌱

You are not going to solve the behaviour of our young people by punishing them into a better way of being. This will only exacerbate their inner word. If we can be curious about their behaviour,we can help them deactivate these defensive manoeuvres that ensure their survival. 🧠🌱
https://t.co/6EtP5TAsh8 Trauma in Children & Responding to the Function of Distressed Behaviour. We will dive into how trauma affects children, how to effectively respond to their distressed behaviour. Parents, educators,or caregivers this event will provide valuable insights🧠🌱

Children who are loved at home, come to school to learn, children who aren’t, come to school to be loved. Just got goosebumps reading this quote! So powerful!

You can't make a pupil behave better by making them feel worse. A nervous system flooded & a brain that doesn't know how to say,"I need help, but I don't know how to ask." This does not mean we don't have consequences. It means we come from a place of help.🧠🌱

Helping children heal from trauma requires a bottom-up approach. They are developmentally stuck in the brainstem with very little accessing higher brain functions.Working on emotional memories while helping them explore dysregulated feelings & regulate the nervous system🧠🌱

Co regulation is where 2 nervous systems attune to one another psychologically & physiologically. Pupils don't leap from meltdown to calm on their own. They need calm, present & connectidness,a person offering safety,a person they can borrow from. A space to hold & contain.🧠🌱

Love this!
Did you watch #EducatingYorkshire last night? A couple of years ago, we sat down with the now headteacher, Matthew Burton to get his advice and some inspirational messages for teachers and leaders alike. Here's a clip below but watch the webinar in full: https://t.co/HmmlReE5RE
