It’s been a while, but I wanted to share one of my most successful and meaningful practices from this year: The Collaborative Note (h/t @realJ_Mitchell). An ongoing Google Doc that students contribute to on a daily basis—summarizing our learning for the day in their own words,

Curious: what is your policy for second (or third, etc) opportunities on evaluations? A written “re-test”? Conversations/observations? Making them correct the questions they got wrong before another opportunity? I’d love to hear people’s approaches!

Day 1: awesome experience so far. Covered 4 of the 7 ?s, easy to evaluate on the spot, and most students seemed relaxed. Very easy process to modify/scaffold. Some Ss did a full verbal explanation, others mixed in diagrams/calculations. Nice variety and clear, reliable evidence.

I'm trying exit interviews as a summative task for the first time with my #MBF3C class. I wanted open-ended questions where Ss can demonstrate their understanding in a number of ways. Would love feedback! (one question borrowed from @realJ_Mitchell)

Bouncing balls and exponential regression today in #MBF3C with some holiday music playing in the background. Great way to wrap up the week and head into break!

Design day in #MBF3C. A great way to apply what we’ve learned about geometry, nets, surface area, and volume. Still waiting for the day when there aren’t giggles across the room every time I use the word ‘balls’ 😂

#MBF3C students built 3D solids today then unfolded them to investigate nets and their connection to SA. Lots of different things emerged including a pretty sweet dodecahedron

Haven’t posted in a while, but can’t say enough about the use of group tests in #MBF3C. The conversations between students are awesome and the engagement is through the roof

I have a student who is struggling with conceptual understanding while spiraling. Just as they’re starting to understand, we move on to a different topic. Any tips from #mtbos?

Created an Open Middle compound interest question to use with my #MBF3C students. The ensuing discussions and competition was great

What’s the most common misspelling of a somewhat everyday word that comes up a lot in a math class, and why is it ‘verticle’?

Very proud of my #MFM2P students today! Groups were running through problems on quadratics, representing them in different forms, finding key points and sketching graphs. A nice consolidation of lots of the work we’ve done with quadratics
