Actor, writer, neuro-diverse. Written more Dr Who than I care to count. Won an Audie, a BBC Audio Drama award & 2 Scribes. Co-host
@BestPickPod
He/him.
Nicholas Lyndhurst is possibly the most under-rated comedy actor I’ve ever worked with, a comedy masterclass in action. Anyone who queries him being in the new Frasier really doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
The legend that is Peter Davison is 70 today which seems unthinkable. He was the first Doctor I properly watched growing up, he sold me on the show. Been an honour giving him words to say for
@bigfinish
. Many happy returns!
The only reason I’d want Jodie Whittaker to quit Doctor Who on TV is because it would mean it’s closer to the time I’d be able to write for her on audio
@bigfinish
.

Doctor Who Fans: The success of the show is its ability to change. To go anywhere, do anything.
Also Doctor Who Fans: This new Dalek design is a monstrosity! Die, Hideous Creature... Die!
Note to the trolls of Who fandom - do not try to take on a comedian who has already had people far bigger than you coming at her. It’s like watching Star Wars fans tangle with Carrie Fisher. She is smarter and funnier than you. You will lose.
15 years ago my life changed. I got an email from David Richardson of
@bigfinish
asking me to write a Companion Chronicle for Wendy Padbury. 100 odd scripts later I’m still here. I’ve gained so much from those years including the best and most talented friends you could wish for.
Disappointing to see people suggesting that PD turning up in the special indicates a change in his position regarding a female Doctor, and not the more likely idea that they misinterpreted his position in the first place.
One day after the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who I’ve got approval for the single most ‘out there’ story I’ve ever pitched for
@bigfinish
and if you know my work you’ll appreciate that’s saying something. Very excited!
Anyway, Who twitter, I’d largely suggest that we just ignore him. He wants the attention. The more annoyed the fanbase is, the greater leverage he thinks he has.
I can’t help but feel that saying ‘Hey, Doctor Who fans. If I do this - some episodes of black and white Doctor Who will not be available on iPlayer. They will, if you like, be MISSING’ might not be the strongest negotiating tactic.
Absolutely heart-broken about this. Always loved and admired him then had the pleasure to work with him many times and discover he was a delight in person. He was in my first Big Finish audio as a writer and I was so honoured. RIP to an all-time great.
…by stopping it going on the iPlayer (where I’d guess the financial gain for the corporation is negligible) he’s effectively encouraged people to buy the DVD (which presumably gives them more) instead.
Not convinced he’s thought this through.
Crikey. People are genuinely saying
#BritishHistoryMatters
. British history mattering is precisely why statues are getting torn down. Because British history is mainly us being arseholes.
Seen a post saying that the BBC ‘aren’t exactly rushing’ the next Doctor Who Collection Blu-ray boxset. Who would want them to? They’re so damn good precisely because they don’t rush them.
Goodness, some fans seem to think I’m way more famous and influential than I am. I’m a professional fan fiction writer, guys. Even I haven’t heard of me.
I’m not sure if ‘I can’t remember if I sent an unsolicited picture of my erect penis’ is quite as much a defence as you might think. Some of us know for a fact we never have.
Peter Sutcliffe dead, Laurence Fox dropped by his agent, Dominic Cummings out of number 10. I think Friday the 13th’s reputation might not be entirely justified.
Doctor Who and Jodie Whittaker have been trending so hard I’d be tempted to imagine Nick Fletcher got a bung off Chris Chibnall. This is the best publicity this season’s got.
Well, here we are then. If you believe the Doctor Who wiki this is my 100th story in the Whoniverse for
@bigfinish
although you have to count adaptations and collaborations to get there.I
Hey
@bigfinish
. Looking at the next year of releases and spotted the Rani series. Can we have two sequels to season 24? IE: ‘Rani and the Rani’. And ‘Bannerman and the Bannermen’? Please and thank you.
One further

Ninth Doctor factoid. I wasn’t asked for a Cyberman story. I came up with an idea that was perfect for them and pitched it. Thankfully everyone went with it. This is the exact opposite of the way things usually work.
You know, I’d like to thank the BF listeners (so not technically someone at BF). Their support has meant that our little corner of the industry has been able to keep going, and by extension lots of actors and writers and directors have been able to work in these tricky times.
Well, once a year we like to try this. ☃🎁🎄🎅 So... please reply to this tweet and let us know someone at Big Finish to whom you'd like to give a Christmas cheer...
I script edited this magnificent thing. When it was done I emailed the team and said ‘I think we’ve just completed Doctor Who’. Because this does EVERYTHING.
🚨 NEWS 🚨 The Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa and Adric will return in 2025 in a mammoth 12-part full-cast audio drama, Hooklight.
Told over two box sets, this is the biggest adventure the Fifth Doctor has faced:
The ‘Defund the BBC’ idiots are actually objecting to three hours of home schooling education programmes. If you didn’t think they were blinkered and fixated before...
Just realised I’ve missed a decade of doing
@bigfinish
Doctor Who. First asked to write a CC on the 30th April 2009. First draft done on the 24th July 2009. There we go. Life changed.
Apparently this is the thirteenth anniversary of my first ever
@bigfinish
script coming out - Sapphire and Steel: Remember Me. Wow. It’s been a while and quite the ride. Life changing.
I mean, I’m basically assuming the Boris Johnson press call is so he can express his opinion on the Jodie Whittaker/Chris Chibnall thing too.

Reading the ever disappointing Graham Linehan stuff today. Personally speaking, the one thing I know about being trans is that I don’t know anything about being trans. Because I’m not trans. And will therefore refrain from deciding what is or isn’t good for trans people.
Watching the animated Fury from the Deep and contemplating a sequel where they mine the weed, dry it and get possessed when they smoke it. In the full knowledge no one will ever let me write it.
We were very saddened to read of the passing of Michael Jayston earlier today. All at Big Finish send love and condolences to his friends and family. RIP.
The Thunberg/Tate thing does just prove the power of stories. The pizza box angle is obviously unlikely but it’s so beautifully neat, such a pleasing example of set-up and pay-off that it will always be viewed as the truth and will effectively become so.
I’ve just woken up and I take it all back. It’s sovereigntied overnight! All the children are out in the street, making sovereigntymen, having sovereigntyfights with sovereigntyballs. Makes you proud to be British.
I hate to be boring and obvious but the first actual episode I put on from the iplayer was Timelash part one because that’s what we’re all doing, right?
Look, Captain Tom is great, and happy birthday, but let’s not forget that the NHS isn’t a charity and the Tories have chronically underfunded it. We shouldn’t be donating to make up the shortfall, we should be voting for people who’d fund it properly.
Happy birthday to
@bbcdoctorwho
You’ve given me more than I would have ever thought possible, the best friends, a career and you’ve let me live my dreams. Plus you always entertain me. Who knows where I’d be without you.
Reading the RTD Rose novelisation is interesting in the lead up to his return - the episode has dated a bit, I’d say, but stripped of the visuals the purity of the storytelling and structure is clear. As an introduction to the worlds of the show it’s pitch perfect.

Heartbroken is right. I had the absolute pleasure of writing for this magnificent actor many times but it was an even greater pleasure meeting her again in the studio where she was the very best of people. RIP.
My latest
@bigfinish
script is absolutely riddled with stage directions that will make the sound designer want to kill me. Apologies in advance, whoever you are.
Really sad to hear we’ve lost david bailie. A fine actor who I had the honour to write a script for, the first Doctor Who I had out. A good chunk of its success is down to him, so I have much to thank him for.

Just to repeat what I said on the panel this series is influenced by things like Alan Ayckbourn’s Norman Conquests, the old Transformers comic strip Aspects of Evil and Chris Ware’s magnificent Building Stories.

As someone who wrote an AI destroying a planet story a couple of years back (that will seem lazily topical when it actually comes out) I feel you need to squint almost entirely to make this true.
Actually, it’s more than that. If the Doctor worked for Division and could have a memory wipe/chameleon arch going… doesn’t that mean that literally any TV show - possibly any film or book or radio show - with a hero… could be a Doctor Who spin-off?
Delighted and honoured to script edited this lovely finale to the BF monthly range. Who’d have thought when I listened to Sirens in my bedroom over twenty years ago.
Hey
@bbcwritersroom
I’ve been a full-time professional writer for over a decade now. I’ve won a BBC audio drama award and an Audie, as well as the BBC Laughing Stock and Show me the Funny competitions. I’m also neuro-divergent.
Suicide, particularly of the young, always gets to me. Remember there is always someone there to help you, no matter how bleak it feels. You are loved. Every one of you.
