Works at Optibus, previous developer of high performance optimization software at CPLEX/IBM., MOSEK and SULUM. Opinions are my own.
Strib, Denmark
Joined November 2010
Did not look much on HM benchmarks, since I left CPLEX. I now see that a Chinese company is leading the MIP benchmark by doing parameter tuning on CPLEX... Still laughing of my own prediction that nothing would happen in this solver segment ππ

This maybe the most important thing that happened in the mathematical optimization solvers since I left IBM and CPLEX in 2020. A scalable method for LP. (I did not contribute to it)

The evolution of linear programming (LP) solvers has been marked by significant milestones over the past century, from Simplex to the interior point method (IPM). The introduction of primal-dualβ¦

And now there are two more.. (at least XOPT and LEOPT are new to me, Chinese optimization solvers are expanding π)
I left CPLEX and the traditional optimization biz two years ago and didn't expect much change in this area. Boy was I wrong. There seem to be a new solver in the HM benchmarks every time I check π - Exciting times for optimization software indeed !

GPU LP solver comparable to state of the art commercial solvers - Exciting times - Looking forward to a closer read. https://t.co/Geuh1bsKhy - Thanks to @d_rehfeldt for the reference.

Does anyone have insight to why it was taken down from the HM site ? π

This week a short function that was thought to be O(N), but in really was O(N^2), after running for eons, finally hit it's worst case complexity. Boom. Impressive.

OK, I see still some key people here, though many has left. I hope we can stay and others will comeback if Twitter remains, might a bit optimistic let's see. Elon doesn't interest me much, but good OR content does.

Not been following twitter much lately, wondering if any Operations research people are still left here or I should just close my account π€

During hiring screening, I was again surprised to see many people with a great CV in OR unable to answer the most basic questions about LP and MILP in practice. I know I am biased, but still.

Did an internal presentation on how to avoid the most common pitfalls with benchmarking, this was my first slide. Yes pink is the new black.

That feeling of self denial, when you layed out the skeleton (headlines) of all our slides and now "only" need to fill in the rest.
