We are hearing powerful testimony at City Hall on the strengthened separation ordinance. It’s clear our community wants to ensure to its full strength that the City of Minneapolis does not enforce federal immigration laws nor assist ICE in any shape or form.

That means our city staff, including Minneapolis Police and Firefighters, are prohibited from participating in immigration enforcement, and I am committed to strengthening our ordinance alongside other Council Members.

I stand firm with our immigrant neighbors and will do everything in my power to protect our most vulnerable from being targeted by the federal government. Stating that we are a welcoming city is not enough; we must show it through our actions.

Regardless of status, the feeling of not being seen or treated as human is one that traumatizes our communities. We will not be made to be afraid. Neighbors being kidnapped in the middle of the day and being ripped frim their families is reprehensible and wrong.
