We are hearing powerful testimony at City Hall on the strengthened separation ordinance. It’s clear our community wants to ensure to its full strength that the City of Minneapolis does not enforce federal immigration laws nor assist ICE in any shape or form.

No group of people is inherently violent nor fraudulent. It is shameful that Trump is using this moment to distract from the damning information surrounding his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump’s move to end Temporary Protective Status for Somali Minnesotans is a racist, Islamophobic attack that unfairly generalizes an entire community and further fuels the rise in hate crimes against our Somali and Muslim communities.

A Happy Veteran’s Day to all who have served. My wish is that our nation can take care of you and all of its people. Housing, Healthcare, and food on the table are human rights— yet for many, especially our veterans they remain unaffordable and out of reach. More work ahead.🇺🇸

We officially unveiled Lena Smith Boulevard! We are no longer honoring Edmund Walton, whose racial covenants fueled redlining and segregation. We honor Lena Olive Smith — Minnesota’s first Black woman attorney, a fearless civil rights leader who fought housing discrimination.

The Trump administration is trying to instill fear into our communities by having Secretary Kristi Noem hold a press conference at Fort Snelling today. We will not succumb to this fear. We will stand up for justice for all our neighbors. https://t.co/010OyCQXNx

That means our city staff, including Minneapolis Police and Firefighters, are prohibited from participating in immigration enforcement, and I am committed to strengthening our ordinance alongside other Council Members.

I stand firm with our immigrant neighbors and will do everything in my power to protect our most vulnerable from being targeted by the federal government. Stating that we are a welcoming city is not enough; we must show it through our actions.

Regardless of status, the feeling of not being seen or treated as human is one that traumatizes our communities. We will not be made to be afraid. Neighbors being kidnapped in the middle of the day and being ripped frim their families is reprehensible and wrong.
