Fact Check: There is no “tremor” occurring at Mt. Rainier. Always check credible sources like USGS and PNSN for information about volcanoes. The station STAR is temporarily impacted by ice buildup causing communication problems resulting in an odd, but non-volcanic signal.

Until further notice, the Carter Falls Trail is closed. The log footbridge over the Nisqually River was dislodged during the weekend, and there is currently no safe way to cross the river. This closure will remain in place until trail crews return in spring.

❄️ A winter storm could bring up to 3 feet of snow this weekend down to 3,000 ft. Mount Rainier National Park will begin nightly gate closures at Longmire at 4 p.m. starting Fri, Oct. 24. The gate will reopen daily to Paradise as conditions allow. Tire chains may be required.

No access to Carbon River & Mowich Lake until further notice while SR165 Carbon River/Fairfax Bridge is closed outside of the park.

SR410/123 are closed for the season. NOTE: Recreation, including hiking/bicycling, is NOT allowed on the roadways this week through Friday while crews work on the road to finish closing it for the season.

It's official our neighbors on SR 410 Chinook and SR 123 Cayuse are closed for the season. They closed temporarily last week due to heavy snowfall and avalanche danger. Over the wknd, Chinook received over 2 feet at the summit. Both passes are closed until spring 2025.

We ain't foolin! Our friends on SR 410 Chinook Pass & SR 123 Cayuse Pass will temporarily close at 12:30 p.m. due to a heavy snow forecast. This is for the safety of travelers due to adverse road conditions/avalanche risk. Crews will assess Nov. 4 to determine reopening.
