10 yrs ago today we lost actor, screenwriter and friend Stephen Lewis aged 88. I asked him in an interview how he'd feel if he was remembered for his Blakey character, he said "Making people laugh has been an honour. If I'm remembered with a laugh, I'll be very happy." Lovely man

Heartbroken to hear Norman Eshley has died at 80. From George & Mildred to I, Claudius, The Sweeney to The Bill, trained by Orson Welles, Norman was never less than brilliant. My viewing childhood is dying. My heart hurts for the loss of a friend. Thoughts with dear wife Rachel.

Hard to believe that actress and friend Jacki Piper is 79 today. Here in Carry on Loving, as well as Jack Douglas' 80th bday party at Pinewood in 2008 and with Sid James widow Val, for a plaque unveiling for Sid at his former Ealing home c.1995 to replace one that was nicked!

Theatre trip last night was a 2nd date. I told her in the late 80s I became engaged in that theatre where Jack Lemmon was appearing & asked my fiancee & I backstage to celebrate. "What that Lemmon chap with funny hair on ITV2?" "NO!. not Keith Lemon!" No 3rd date on the cards!!!

Hugely enjoyab play @TillTheStarsLDN at the beautiful @TRH_London. Well crafted mix of poignant relationships drama & clever laughs with simple effective staging. Bravo to cast, crew & production team especially writer Beth Steel. I laughed, I shed tears. Couldn't ask for more.

Happy 67th birthday today to the Carry Ons. Without these two chaps on the left - late producer Peter Rogers & late screenwriter Norman Hudis, who kicked it all off in 1958 with CO Sergeant - we'd not have this much cherished chapter of Britcom history all these decades later.

Fun afternoon watching @FawltyTowersWE up London's West End with my eldest son, 28. Last year I took my youngest, 15, to see it. I have brought them up well. Classic comedy that has transferred well to the stage due to clever adaptation.

The last time the men's team won the World Cup, in 1966, a reception was held for @PinewoodStudios meeting cast and crew from films being shot there. Sean Connery was shooting his 5th Bond film You Only Live Twice, and Yul Brynner was appearing in The Double Man.

Few images cry out more, the best of British film making. Richard Attenborough, Bryan Forbes et al, during production of The League of Gentlemen, at Pinewood in 1959. When I interviewed Lord A, I was delighted to see this picture framed up on his wall. One of his favourites too.
