For the nerds (me), the Type Foundry Directory now has a changelog:

Realizing I don’t have a direct link to this on the site yet, but here are the operating costs (not accounting for my own time) and income from the directory so far. https://t.co/veyGXrPVfZ

There is a lot more to this update and there is a lot more planned, but I will let you discover what the directory has to offer for yourself! https://t.co/Eq463zpyVG

From research to development to maintenance, the directory has largely been an independent effort. I am introducing sponsored nameplates to help provide financial backing which allows me to allocate time, effort, and external resources to future developments.

This update also includes the publication of the directory’s “Methodology” which is a very detailed documentation of the directory’s structure, how information is logged, and unpacks its underlying biases.

Now having read 400+ End User License Agreements, poured over countless FAQs, and even consulted for foundries, the directory has been completely overhauled with 3x more data and a refreshed design.

Today, things are a bit more complicated. The landscape of font licensing has changed drastically in recent years, and the directory’s original simplicity no longer fit my needs.

For the past seven years I have been independently maintaining the Type Foundry Directory. What started as a simple link to a spreadsheet that I created in an effort to overhaul my bookmarking system, has since become—what others have told me—an industry essential resource.

Do you use the https://t.co/0A5ArzEJtD? If so would you be willing to share your experience/write a small testimonial? I am preparing to launch the new iteration and have some plans for “press.”

A few more samples of Tiny New Roman.* *not actually the font name

Another example of tiny Times. Admittedly, Times New Roman has a more upright “M” but I’ve succumbed to my bias for a slightly splayed “M.” While it may be a preference of mine, I do also think it’d be more conducive to printing at small scale.

…like a two-story “g” that virtually sits on the baseline and a comma that floats considerably higher than the period. It’s a charming albeit plain font which is what I often gravitate towards in my own design work. We will see if it goes anywhere.
