Institutional interest in Solana is growing. Canadian firms 3iQ and Evolve have already launched spot Solana ETFs with staking functionality. Additionally, Coinbase has been named custodian for Franklin Templeton's upcoming Solana ETF.

Beyond speed enhancements, other upgrades include improvements to remote procedure calls (RPC), upgraded liquidity systems, and asynchronous processing. These changes aim to ensure stable transactions even during high-volume periods (table stakes we'd argue)

Offshore platforms like Nexo and YouHodler offer up to 16% yield on stablecoin deposits. Without competitive offerings from U.S. platforms, consumers might turn to these foreign entities, leading to capital outflows.

For US crypto platforms like Coinbase, and Kraken, expanding financial services is crucial. However, if they can't offer interest on stablecoin deposits, attracting customers becomes challenging, giving legacy banks a big advantage.

Recent actions by the OCC and SEC have enabled U.S. banks to offer a range of crypto services, including acting as custodians and issuing digital assets. This positions banks to compete directly with crypto platforms.

That practice will now be codified into law, with part 8 of the STABLE Act explicitly stating: "A permitted payment stablecoin issuer may not pay interest or yield to holders of its payment stablecoins."

Stablecoins like USDC and USDT are pegged to the U.S. dollar and backed by assets like cash & short-term U.S. Treasuries. These reserves generate yield, but issuers typically retain the interest rather than passing it to consumers.

US Stablecoin Law: No Yield, No Interest… No Users? The STABLE Act of 2025 will provide much needed legal clarity for Stablecoin use in the U.S. That's good. It will also ban interest/yield for stablecoins - that's bad for business.. very bad
