Founded in 1867, MBA helps boys become men of wisdom and moral integrity who will make significant contributions to society.
Gentleman. Scholar. Athlete.
In an impromptu gathering outside the rifle range after school today, the students and faculty show that Colonel Sharbel’s influence spread far beyond just the boys he coached on the rifle team.
Today we pause the school day to remember Mr. Chris Smith, our beloved colleague, mentor, coach, and friend. We miss him dearly already, but Coach Smith's impact on the MBA community is far from over.
It's no surprise to see fortitude from Coach Klausner in the midst of cancer treatments. He's fostered strength in his students and players for years. Let's send it all back his way! "Yes, I have cancer. I’m nauseous and exhausted, but this is what I’m born to do. I’m a teacher."
We express our heartfelt sympathies for the loss of two alumni in the BGA community. We care for and value our friends at BGA.
-Brad Gioia, Headmaster, and the MBA community
The interment for LtCol Joseph A Sharbel, USMC (Ret) took place at Arlington National Cemetery today. Among the Marines serving as bearers was one of his former advisees, Corporal Robertson Fowler '15.
Watch Mr. Story on
@WSMV
at 5:15 tonight for more about the power of character. No word yet on whether the
@Titans
plan to fly him to KC for the pregame speech.
Has Mr. Story discovered the secret to Derrick Henry's dominant performance on the football field? (n.b. Being 6'3 and 238 lbs does not qualify as "secret" in any way.)

MBA understands the concerns about the Sam Davis statue, and we will remove the statue from the campus within the week. It was placed on the campus because of Sam Davis's pre-Civil War connection to one of MBA's predecessor schools and the attributes of loyalty and friendship...
Mason Skeeters '21 earned the honor of serving as the guidon (flag) bearer for his regiment (H2) at West Point during the Army-Navy game.

Hearing the students' appreciation for Colonel Sharbel is a powerful way for us as faculty to honor his memory and to continue finding inspiration in his fine example.
(1/2) Colonel Sharbel was one of the best men, mentors, and coaches to ever step foot on MBA’s campus. He was a man of true integrity who touched everyone’s life that he had the chance to. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. The MBA community stands together in hopes..
Nas Cook '21 (
@NasCook1
) is not waiting for someone else to break down implicit biases between law enforcement and urban communities. He earned a fellowship from
@Princeton
, started a nonprofit (
@nyi_org
), and got right to work:
After 20 years calling
@MBAFootball
games, Mike Martin '98 and John Merrick are hanging up their headsets. Their hard work in the pressbox did justice to the hard work on the field. Thanks for doing it so well for so long!

Our newest member of The Board of Trustees,
@EddieGeorge2727
, earned an MBA at
@KelloggSchool
at
@NorthwesternU
, performed on Broadway in the musical Chicago, and has taught theater classes at MBA. We’re told that he also played some football.
@Titans
Coach Anglin has 17 players on the
@MBABigRedBball
team, but he has far more than that in his trig classes. At the state championship they had him autograph textbooks, and then they staged this over the top photo op in class today. Great teachers make great coaches.
@VandyMBB
After an undefeated season,
@MBAHockey1
entered the double elimination state tourney. In the finals, with the chance to avenge their lone playoff loss against Brentwood, they came back from a 0-2 deficit with 4 unanswered goals and claimed their first ever GNASH Cup!!!!
Echoes from Friday night's thriller are still bouncing around campus. With the buzzer beater, Josh Roberts '23 had the shot of the night, and a shot of the victorious aftermath by Darin Hall '22 has to be a close second. Besting both shots was the overwhelming

support.
Recording his 100th
@mbafootball
win tonight is just one among many great moments for Coach Euverard: his first practice, QB Club lunches, Bell Buckle trips, radio interviews, pep talks, devotionals, victory speeches, and championships. They all count. Congratulations, Coach U!!

The airnasium at Long Mountain is almost complete. It’s perfect for those moments when you’re torn between shooting hoops or reading by the fire. Just do both!

Last night MBA,
@univofthesouth
, and
@Harvard
lost their oldest living graduate, Mr. James O. Bass '28. He was a wonderful friend to our school and to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He loved MBA and expressed that care in countless ways. We will miss him.
Miles Versa ‘21 will forever have the distinction of recording the first varsity basketball points in The Burk. (That it was a 3-pointer and the first shot of a win against Father Ryan makes it feel especially historic.)
@MBABigRedBball
We mourn the loss of Magistra Anne Christeson. For 29 years both students and colleagues learned from her impeccable scholarship. Her memory will stick with us just as enduringly as Cicero's Oratio in Catilinam Prima that we all recited in her class.
Our thanks to
@WSMV
and
@EdwardBurch
for remembering Travis Brannon '07 who died in a
@USMC
helicopter training operation in Yuma AZ this weekend. We mourn his loss, but we celebrate the lasting memory of the fine example he set for those around him.
The Big Red cross country team just made history in Oregon. For the first time ever, they earned their way to the elite Nike Cross Nationals (aka NXN). Led by senior co-captains Mitchell Chaffin and Samuel Trumble, the team also featured juniors Jack Wallace... (1/3)
Mr. Eddie George, an unstoppable force in any arena, officially joins the MBA Board of Trustees with the presentation of a plaque commemorating his membership. We're glad he's on our team.
At the nationals last weekend, Bryce Wittman '18 secured the highest finish ever for an MBA wrestler. On the way to his 3rd place finish, Bryce also defeated the
#1
seeded wrestler.
The downside of a snow day? Not getting to see Ms. Susan, as we have been so fortunate to do every day for 20 years. Here's a tribute to our hero of hospitality:
Yes!
@NasCook1
'21 is back! We love supporting the important work of
@nyi__org
(the nonprofit he founded) which builds common experiences between law enforcement and the urban community to promote inclusion and diversity.

The pipers' presence at today's drive-thru faculty gauntlet foreshadows the real faculty gauntlet the Class of 2020 will walk through at graduation.

Captured perfectly here by a
@timesfreepress
photographer, the power of teamwork was on full display Friday night as the
@MBAFootball
defense made this game-winning stop.
Starting the year with 19 students, faculty, and staff ringing the giant bell in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.

Last night debaters Aden Barton '20 and Sam Meacham '21 won the Tournament of Champions! Alex Trebek wasn't running the show here, but we'd like their chances up against the likes of Ken Jennings or James Holzhauer in that other TOC.
What you can’t see here is everyone else also prophesying a TD for Johnothan Moore ‘23 right after the handoff. 3 TDs and 194 yards against BA earns your player of the week vote for Johnothan, right? (Original photo source: )
A whole mess of state championships has come to The Hill over the last few days. Among them was a victory for the JV hockey squad over an all-star TN Outlaws team. Congrats to the Ice Pups!!
