One man began running down the street after authorities broke away to curtail defiant drivers. I asked the first responders at the blockade if he was with them, and they said no.

A member of the Baltimore City Fire Department quit his job and took parting shots at one of BCFD's senior members in a six-page letter that criticizes the way the department is run---alleging abuse of power and authority. Stand by for a thread of documents.

Just saw this coronavirus commercial: If you're a Baltimore resident who is 70 years or older, Laundry City will pick up your laundry, wash it and return it to you for no charge.
Tell your Nana. Tell everyone.

Long story short: someone ran over the bench at Pennsylvania/North. Maybe it was a week ago. Maybe it was longer than that.
I'd been waiting for a bench to get destroyed in the circle of life so that I could try to salvage this one board. Finally, my opportunity had arrived.

In west Baltimore today some bad-ass woman who had been carjacked tracked down her own vehicle, followed it around town, got police and the police helicopter to work with her, and recovered her vehicle.
It sounded like police apprehended two of the guys occupying the vehicle.

The past several days have been unusually horrific in Baltimore. I mean, there's crime and then there's gunning down barbers in their barbershops, stabbing an old woman to death inside of a church, and killing a 13-year-old girl at band practice.
This is some next-level cruelty.

I couldn't attend Fenton's premiere party for We Own This City tonight, so I just wanted to give him this shameless plug.
I've seen Fenton devote more work hours and personal downtime to keeping track of city ongoings than anyone else. His success is well-deserved.

“Baltimore City is truly the very heart of our state, and more attacks between politicians aren’t going to get us anywhere.”
This guy recently denied "the heart of our state" a whole bunch of funding for rape evidence kits, crime prevention initiatives, and school construction.
This evening police found *eleven* ATMs behind a vacant house in southwest Baltimore.
This happens to be a few blocks away from where police recovered two vans with ATMs inside them on separate occasions.
It's also near where police found an ATM abandoned in a bailout crash.

He's still. A kid.
And people's lives and trajectories change over time.
And if you can't have empathy for someone who had only 16 years of life to figure out who they were, then maybe you're not the best person to represent a struggling community with few easy options.
Baltimore mayor’s response to the killing of a 16-year-old boy at a rec center, the city’s 100th homicide of the year:
“Mayor Catherine Pugh said the boy had a criminal history. He was ‘not just somebody playing basketball on the basketball court.”

The 1700 block of Oliver Street has houses with marble doorways constructed the likes of which I haven't seen anywhere else in the city. Each one has a different design etched into the marble. Gearie said he grew up nearby and he remembered when they used to be white.

Someone just interrupted South Korean Presidential Security Council member Kim Heung-Kyu while he was talking to inform him that the president pulled out of the summit.
"Well that changes what I was going to say."

Girl on Connecticut Avenue decided she'd had enough of aggressive Washington drivers and refused to move.
She eventually hit the minivan, which prompted its driver to abandon the vehicle and follow her down the street.

Scanner chatter: Report of a group of young males who assaulted a homeless man near Saratoga and Liberty.
Happened to be standing at that corner waiting for the Blue Line bus at the time of the call. No assault occurred and I actually talked to those kids as they walked by.

In other news, police had a hard time helping citizens who found a big raccoon on their boat tonight. Police asked Animal Control for help but were told that "the racoon is already in its element being out on a boat and everything. He's in his element. They're not coming out."

Day One: I have a coffee bar in my apartment. My cat, Burisma, is living her best life just staring at the plants. Oddly, she never wants to play with toys but likes my glasses and the face mask my landlord gave me. No one is around to complain about my excellent taste in music.

Papi's on Aliceanna Street is selling 32 oz margaritas in a bag for $15. The bartender explained that the straw slips inside the bag as if it were an adult-size Capri Sun. I've never said "thank you" so many times in a row in my life.

Sweet female calico cat needs home. She made it through the winter alone. It's clear that she desperately wants to be loved by someone. Ping me if you have room in your home for her. No meet and greets. Trying to maintain minimal exposure to strangers during the apocalypse. Thx.

Tonight was my last night taking pictures of city ongoings, which is mostly crime scenes and fires. I'm not sure for how long. A month. A few months. Until encryption? I've been burning out for over a year. I was at a breaking point in early 2020 but then the pandemic happened.

I'm limited in what I can say online, so I'm just going to retweet pictures of all the times I've watched firefighters march into vacant houses that were already in questionable condition prior to the start of the fire.

My mother sews Star Wars-related attire and bags. This is a reflective C-3P0 vest that she made so that drivers will notice me when I'm "out doing stupid things at night."
That's fair.

I saw a squeegee kid near S. President Street when my bus was stuck in traffic. I nudged my dragon nose against the window to say hello and he rubbed soap on it. I thought: damn, is he going to try to squeeze this bus for a few dollars? But no, he used his wiper to make a heart.

The few detectives I interact with when I'm out on the streets taking pictures of crime scenes put a lot of themselves into this city, and they lost a friend this week, so I'm going to bring attention to their work by posting photos of them throughout the day.

I just ordered the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had in my entire life from The Brass Tap. In. my. entire. life. It has brisket in it, aged cheddar, pepper jack, spicy sauce, pickled red onion, and fresh jalapenos.
Must not be a spice pansy to ride this ride.

There's a church at the corner of Bolton Street and W. Lafayette Avenue. I glided past it on my bicycle. All the windows were open. The organ was playing. The priest was outside wearing a black face mask talking to churchgoers who were also wearing face masks.
This was America.

Betty White deeply loved her husband and he's been gone for a few decades now. Do you think she'd rather be here making commercials about Snickers candy bars for you? Personally, I hope she gets to love again. I like to think that death can't take that away from people.

This has happened to me half a dozen times: a male photographer has seen me taking pictures and gotten right in front of me anyway. At this moment, I was irked. But then I told myself: work with it, not against it. If he wants to be in the photo, then let him be in it.
Voila!

Sometimes when I'm left alone to my own devices and no one is forcing me to go here/there blah blah your safety, I actually have a chance to paint the world the way that I see it in my mind.
And that's kind of nice.

I can't afford to carry around an expensive camera. I think it's unwise to drag a tripod around too. I have an OK-ish camera and use my elbows as a tripod.
That's how I get by.

Now he is backtracking. Says he didn't have all the facts. Pruitt must resign.

Day 431: I worked out of my office in Washington for the first time in 431 days. It was a surreal experience. The morning train was mostly empty. Some of the area restaurants had shut down due to economic pressures. The food trucks were gone. But the National Guard was gone too.

There are a lot of sad things about homicide investigations but the saddest is when there's a cellphone on the ground ringing again and again because the person on the other end knows, but they don't want to know, but they still have to ask.

It doesn't matter what a person does for a living, whether they commit crimes in order to get by in life or if it's their job to solve those crimes—everyone has a family and friends. Someone out there loves them.
No death is a small event. Many people are impacted.
