Just want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who has contributed to the Modculture site costs to keep the site running. You really have been wonderful. I’ll now get onto making it the best Mod site out there. If you still want to help, details here:
Now this is interesting. The Small Faces on Beat Club, but now available in colour. Yes, the colour footage, missed presumed lost, has just appeared on YouTube.
Long read time: It’s the most obvious symbol of the movement, but the fishtail isn’t that common anymore. Have we seen the death of the parka on the Mod scene?
After giving it some serous thought, I have compiled a list of 20 mod labels for the 21st century, covering both male and female clothing. You might disagree and to be honest, with some big names missing, I really wouldn’t be surprised.
It was 20 years ago today…
….that Modculture launched for the first time.
Celebrating by thinking back to a time when I had no family/work responsibility and I could sit in my flat creating a website until the early hours. Plenty of different looks over the years…
Whether it’s for nostalgia, to replace a copy, or because you never heard it in the first place, a Mods Mayday ’79 vinyl album reissue is here. Black vinyl and a coloured vinyl release limited to 250 units.

The paperback edition of Clean Living Under Difficult Circumstances by Eddie Piller is coming your way this week. And if you haven’t read it, you really should.
If you are going to read just one piece of mod-related fiction, make it Absolute Beginners by Colin MacInnes. Still as sharp and relevant today as it was 60 years ago. Check out my take on it.
Note that these are not functioning instruments. But Ric Arts are Paul Weller replica guitars from The Jam era reproduced as feature pieces for your home.
This looks essential. Eddie Piller presents British Mod Sounds of the 1960s is available on vinyl and CD, some limited editions (only 750 of each) and massive 6-LP vinyl boxes. Sleevenotes aplenty and some amazing tunes, naturally.
Fancy a Soviet-era copy of a GS? If you do, check out this 1960s Vjatka WP150 scooter on eBay, which is still in its original condition and with original documentation.
I’ve done the hard work so you don’t have to and created the mod’s guide to Record Store Day 2019. The pick of the vinyl releases so far confirmed, including the ones you see here.
Available to order now, Eddie Piller presents The Mod Revival is a 92-track CD box set with book or a double coloured vinyl set. Essentially, Eddie’s take on the Mod Revival era and beyond.
Now this is a treat. After quite an absence, the 1960s Adidas Japan trainers are returning to the shelves. But be warned, they will be in limited numbers and will likely sell out fast.
An interesting idea, Into Tomorrow – The Spirit Of Mod 1983-2000 box set collects bands loosely associated with the Mod movement over four discs and 92 tracks.
A little later than planned, but always a popular feature, I am once again pleased to present the Brighton Mod Weekender 2023 photographs by Chris Wild. Check out the full selection on the Modculture website.
Just in case you have lost or damaged your old copy, Snap! by The Jam is getting a heavyweight vinyl reissue, having been remastered at Abbey Road. Yes, the bonus single is included.
There are well over 500 designs available in total, but its the Mod, soul and ska cushion designs by Rat Rock that I’ve flagged up. Designs for sofa and floor and if you want one for Christmas, you have a couple of days left to order.
There are so many to choose from, but I have managed to narrow down 20 of the best budget mod compilations available to buy right now. Some great tracks and for less than you might think or expect.
Steve Marriott’s life has been told at least a couple of times but not so Ronnie Lane. That’s about to change with the release of Anymore for Anymore: The Ronnie Lane Story.
These Adidas London trainers in white leather are about the best-looking thing I’ve seen from the label in years. As a noted designer once said, ‘less is more’.
There are more extensive compilations and collections out there, but the new Strictly Mod compilation on vinyl and CD via Charly is still worth checking out.
As some of you might know by now, a new, mobile-friendly version of the Modculture site has just launched, almost 20 years to the day since it first appeared. I’ve written a few words about it, the future and how you can help out.
No, you are not imagining this. A 1960s Vespa 125 Lego set is now available, but only for a limited time. 1,106 pieces too, which should keep you busy.
It isn’t the 1960s, time has moved on and so have clothing and footwear labels. With that in mind, here are my 25 Mod labels for the 21st century, now updated (and extended) for 2021.
With the vinyl and CD reissues here I thought it was the ideal time to write this article. Just four years together and one album, but they left quite an impression. Whatever happened to The Redskins?

I flagged this up back in July. If you missed it then (as many of us were on holiday), the Into Tomorrow – The Spirit Of Mod 1983-2000 box set actually lands next week.
Almost 60 years on and Absolute Beginners by Colin MacInnes is still (arguably) the book that says more about mod than any other. Despite never using the word once.
There are four reissues of The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society for the 50th anniversary, including the amazing box set you see here. Full details of all of them on the site.

An unreleased album from the 1960s, The Ska From Jamaica was offered in limited numbers on vinyl for RSD. It’s back now as a CD set with a ridiculous number of extra and unreleased tracks.
