I followed this from quite early on and have to say that there were quite a few people who worked particularly hard at uncovering this, and received a *lot* of abuse online as a result from trying to raise awareness.

Every time I see anti-immigration posts and people complaining that immigrants are stealing jobs, I’m reminded of the time my cousin fell out with me after I pointed out to her that our grandmother was an immigrant.

And finally, if we cast a weary eye back over a millennia before Cnut invaded, we learn that the land was invaded or settled multiple times by different groups of people, including the Anglo-Saxons who gave England its name. In other words - humans have always moved around.

So if we move on to ‘the United Kingdom’ from 1707-present, we will note that revolutionary France invaded at the end of the 18th century and there were a number of attempts during the 20th century world wars to invade. 🤷🏻‍♀️.
