Check out this low-fi little reading review game!! We used a piece of paper, some markers, a few peg dolls, and a word list inspired by the “VCe” (vowel, consonant, silent e) spelling pattern! Every part was co-created in a partnership between kids and adults❤️

Educators, parents, and anyone who cares about young children… Listen to this. Small humans are capable of reading. Here is the important part: make sure your school/ your child’s classroom/ school board philosophy aligns with the Science of Reading.

By day… I teach small humans at school. By night… I teach small kittens in my ensuite bathroom 😹 Foster kittens looking for their forever homes. Could that be YOU?!

Our afternoon ended up with a huge surprise… one of our classroom dads rolled up in his “work truck”!!! The @LdnOntFire can hire our class to give their best “fire truck siren” rendition any time 🤣🚒

Our day started with gathering together as a whole school to learn about Oneida grass dancing and jingle dancing! We loved the regalia and the music!! @tmdenomme

Teaching printing in kindergarten: Following a specific #scopeandsequence (separate from their phonics letter/sound learning), students learn proper letter formation. We start with tracing letters in sand trays, then writing with small pieces of chalk to promote a tripod grip.

Is this “just a craft”? Or was it an opportunity for these children to practice sharing, communicating, fine motor skill development, creativity, and thoughtful conversation with their peers and teacher? … this is why I love Kindergarten!

September has been busy… but we are back to share some of the amazing learning in our class! Today we read the beautiful book “With Our Orange Hearts” by Phyllis Webstad. We learned that “every child matters, including you and me. With our orange hearts, we walk in harmony.”

I consider myself all kinds of lucky. “Once in a lifetime” experiences are hard to come by. Tomorrow, I am going to swim with whale sharks. And even if I don’t… the ocean is a magical, powerful ecosystem. ⛵️
