This paper.uses transmission electron microscopy to show a structural reorganisation from a five- to a six-layered Aurivillius phase, accommodating more magnetic ions while preserving in-plane ferroelectric properties, as.confirmed by piezoresponse force microscopy imaging.

Increasing the concentration of magnetic ions is a well-known strategy for improving long-range magnetic ordering and magnetisation. However, understanding how this increase affects the crystal structure of multiferroic Aurivillius phases is essential.
