This iconic bridge - 114 years old today - has to be restored and put back into full working action, whatever it takes. And rest assured that as the MP for Middlesbrough and Thornaby East, I'll be pursuing government and anybody else I need to, to make sure that that happens.

I welcomed the long-sought ceasefire in Gaza and the safe return of prisoners and hostages. I raised concerns that the 20-point plan is without Palestinian input, and the need for Palestinian self-determination, their consent for any governance or stabilisation arrangements.

Private Eye’s @rbrooks45 today exposes how Lord Houchen enabled two businessmen to turn Teesworks into a taxpayer-funded gravy train. It is a staggering story. The investment should have created a wealth fund for Teesside but fills millionaire coffers instead.

The Labour MPs signing the reasoned amendment are trying to prevent the government from straying into colossal error. They come with great experience and knowledge and they want the government to listen, to pause and have a rethink. More from me on BBC Tees today. 👇

Over 100 MPs have signed my motion urging the UK govt to recognise the state of Palestine. The UN's conference to discuss Palestine's future was due to start today. The UK should recognise the state of Palestine now.

We've got confirmation today that the Tees Valley will be receiving £1 billion to develop our transport network across the region and £60 million to create that third platform at Middlesbrough railway station. So, a great, great day for transport in the Tees Valley.

“Tees Valley Combined Authority spent over £13,000 sending two staff members to the south of France in March. But there's no evidence they actually did any work when they were there.” https://t.co/hLVgxYPwSG

The huge rise in dependence on food parcels shows the scale of the cost-of-living crisis and problem of poverty. The Govt must urgently pause and rethink cuts to PIP and Universal Credit if we are to alleviate poverty and to bring down food bank use. https://t.co/h5bkT5Op22

Demand for food banks is up more than 50 per cent compared to five years ago, according to new research by Trussell, with the charity warning that planned welfare cuts risk making the issue worse.

The scale of poverty in Middlesbrough is an absolute scandal. Govt has to prioritise its anti-poverty strategy - scrapping the two-child benefit limit and not pressing ahead with the cuts to welfare payments. Driving down poverty has to be our priority. https://t.co/kJeyZBiU5S

Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke called the statistics 'dire' while Newport's ward councillors described the situation as a 'crisis'

The killing of over 400 Palestinians in Israeli airstrikes is simply unconscionable. The ceasefire and aid deliveries must be restored immediately. Britain should apply sanctions and end carve-outs for arms supplies to Israel. https://t.co/JkakpCq0Dy

It comes after the Hamas ministry says more than 400 people have been killed in strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

I recently saw the brilliant neurosciences dept at Middlesbrough's James Cook Hospital. But it only has 18 rehab beds when the guidelines say it needs 80 beds. I asked the PM for the resources to develop a world-class new rehabilitation centre to serve Tees Valley. #PMQs

The Commons spent twelve hours discussing the Employment Rights Bill this week. Reform UK MPs spoke for 20 seconds between them and then voted against your new rights at work. They have absolute contempt for ordinary workers. https://t.co/tkrcMqt7U8

Firms pursue illegal fire-and-rehire - or fire-and-replace - because they profit from cheaper labour after pricing-in the cost of fines. The Employment Rights Bill is a great bill, but we must consider the need for injunctive powers against such practices by employers like P&O.
