Journalist + editor interested in health and justice, currently reporting on the IUD. Work in @slate, @marshallproj, @nytimes, @longreads. Opinions mine.
Joined June 2013
Last year, I started wondering how long my IUD would really last. When I had it inserted, I was told it was good for 5 years, but I later learned that research had extended the lifespan to 8. Great news—but I wanted to know how we had gotten to that point.

I learned for myself how hard it is to get a simple question answered. I'm far from alone.

I'm continuing to report on the IUD, & I want to hear your IUD story! Why you love/hate it; your experience with pain, side effects, insertion, removal; how you feel about the politicization of contraception ... If you want to share it, I want to hear it:

I'm reporting on the IUD, and the political, social, and scientific questions that define it. I believe the best way to understand the IUD is to listen carefully to the experiences of those who have...
For @Slate I spoke to women who removed their own IUDs—a practice with a (very!) long history, lots of online controversy, and important implications for reproductive autonomy.

Giving people more more information about their contraception means giving them more control—even if that information is nuanced or complicated. (It often is!) https://t.co/9KVRfPtUkn (Ty @shanpalus for editing 💕)
