The biomarkers and their stable isotopes show that methane was oxidized by aerobic bacteria, causing ocean acidification and CO2 emission from the Arctic Ocean during PETM. #PETM #IODP #biomarkers #methane #CO2

The Perseverance team discovered the rock formation in an ancient, now-dry riverbed in Jezero Crater, and instruments revealed that it's composed of clay and silt. On Earth, these are excellent preservers of past microbial life.

Asteroid Bennu’s parent body was likely a salty, wet environment – one surprisingly like a lakebed on Earth. @NASA scientists drew similarities between a sample collected from Bennu by the #OSIRISREx mission & minerals from Searles Lake, a dry lake in California’s Mojave Desert.
