Due to a localised convection, Male' area experienced heavy rainfall with thunderstorm activities in the early hours of today. Male' City recorded a rainfall of 88 mm and Hulhule recorded 49 mm of rainfall.
A low pressure area has formed over south-east Arabian Sea. It is likely to concentrate in to a depression and move northwestwards during next 24 hours.
Under the influence of the active southwest monsoon condition, squally showers with strong winds and very rough seas are expected across the country for the next 3 days. Therefore, all, particularly seafarers urged to be cautious due to adverse weather conditions.

Due to the difference in speed of light & sound, you can tell if the cloud is approaching or moving away by counting the time between consecutive lightning and thunder.
Southwest monsoon is expected to become strong over the Maldives area from Wednesday, 7th July. Widespread rain, occasionally heavy showers, strong winds, and rough seas are expected for the subsequent 4 days. Seafarers are advised to be cautious while venturing into the seas.
