A friend of mine just said that Americaβs currently in a group project where half the people did the hard work and prepared while the other half went into the presentation completely unprepared, got everyone a bad grade, and then whined about the grade after. Itβs too accurate.

Studentsβ misvalue of and dependence on grades will not wane quickly. The roots are deep and strong. Yet β we can fail to give grades life when we cut off the punitive and compliance-based metrics that make them so poisonous. Weaken the roots, the reach of grades will rot.
