1969 #Ford #Torino GT; 390 cid, 4 bbl, 320 hp; C6 Cruise-o-Matic; sporty version of Ford's mid-size offering included special trim and striping and styled steel wheels. A GT Cobra with 428 cid/335 hp was one step up.

@Mercomatic My grandparents had a 59 Rambler (sorry Bill). Just two gears, and no P for park. Emergency brake became all important. Two speeds. Modern tanks are modeled after it.

1966 #Ford #Mustang #Convertible; 289 cid, 4 bbl, 271 hp; 3-speed Cruise-o-Matic; exterior items included are the factory GT rally wheels, GT fog lights, and the GT rear valance with exhaust trumpets. Deluxe interior includes seats with the desired "Pony" inserts.

1936 #Buick Special 3-Pssgr Business Cpe.; 233 cid ohv inline Eight, 2 bbl, 93 hp; 3-speed manual floor shift. Completely restyled and technically modernized. Premium features include dual side mounts, side chrome on the hood, front driving lights, red pinstripe and chrome grill.

1961 Chevrolet Impala 2-Dr Sport Coupe (#BubbleTop); 348 cid "Turbo Thrust", 4 bbl, 305 hp; 4-speed manual; Like all GM B-Body cars, Chevrolet enjoyed a complete styling makeover for 1961. In Chev’s case however all engineering was carried forward.

Jimmy Dean began his fateful racing career today in 1955 by winning his first formal motor race. Thus began a series of squabbles with Warner Brothers who barred him from racing during filming. He continued anyway and his death came Sept 30 while driving to yet another race

1968 #Mercury #ParkLane #Convertible; 390 cid, 4 bbl, 315 hp; While #Marquis was senior to Park Lane it was offered only as a 2-dr Coupe priced at just $110 more. Park Lane had a full-length tire-level molding and chrome moldings around the wheelhouse. The dash was redesigned.

1970 #Dodge #Charger R/T; 440 cid, 3x2 bbl “Six-Pack”, 390 hp; 3-speed Torqueflite; 4.10 Sure-Grip Dana rear end. The same body as used in 1968/69 continued, with minor trim changes. R/T was the high performance member of the lineup, equipped with many heavy duty goodies.

No sooner were cars invented than men began racing them. The first timed speed trials were held at Daytona Beach today in 1903. Alexander Winton, driving his 40 hp, 8-liter Bullet No. 1, defeated Ransom Olds’ Pirate, driven by H.T. Thomas. His measured-mile top speed was 68.2 mph
