🧵 .Mega thread on RF, SDR, ham radio, and signal hacking:.I've been writing educational posts and threads on these topics. To help finding them easier, I will put all the links here. And I will link the new threads to the bottom of this meta thread every time I write one. 0/n.

I will get one to test when it's released. Here's the datasheet if you're interested:.

Lime Microsystems has started a new campaign on CrowdSupply for their new product: a 4-channel up/down converter covering 800MHZ to 10GHZ, based on their LMS8001A RF chipset. It enables coverage from 10MHZ to 10GHZ for LimeSDR family.

Why I don’t post much about infosec: because there’s already a huge amount of content out there. But RF, SDR, and hardware security? Fewer voices, fewer resources, and much more to uncover. That’s where I want to contribute.

Switching to an industry that builds both hardware and software was a turning point for my career. Real full stack: mechanical, electrical, FPGA, RF, firmware, cloud, mobile app. Leading the security & platform teams now, I’m facing challenges I never had in pure software.

Also: it feels good when you touch/see the final product you have had a role in its design. Never had this level of satisfaction before in my career.

Did you know that "i" in USRP B200mini-i and B205mini-i stands for "industrial"?.They use the industrial variant of the Xilinx FPGA. Even their enclosure kits are different, which increases the max operating temperature to 75C.

What is F# used for these days?. Last time I used it was on 2010, to write a parser and C code generator. Never used it since. (and when I left the company, they rewrote it in C++).

Ettus' website says the TCXO version of the GPSDO module has a better close-in phase noise, while the OCXO version has better wideband phase noise, but the oscillator specs are exactly the opposite. Am I missing something, or it's simply a documentation error? 🤔

Personal observation:.The most popular SDR used in research papers I've read on Arxiv is USRP B210!. Other USRP models (B200, N series and X-series) rank next.

Fun fact:.bladeRF 2.0 xA9 has the biggest FPGA size of any USB SDR (and practically any SDR below $8k) with 301k logic elements!.This lets you implement your protocol in HDL. For comparison: SDRs in this class have < 100k LEs. The next contender is USRP B205mini with 150k LEs.

If you don't have a SDR or spectrum analyzer to check signals above 6GHZ, an affordable option is to use a downconverter (not suitable for precise measurement, but good enough for basic checks). Here I'm using HydraSDR RFOne to check a X band (10 GHZ) signal.

AntSDR E200 is also another great option at almost half the price of SignalSDR, but it has a few shortcomings in comparison (depending on your needs) : second pair of ports are not easily accessible, it doesn't provide separate PPS and clock inputs, it only has Ethernet.

Has anyone here compared the RF performance of SignalSDR Pro to USRP B210?.SignalSDR costs less than half, so if it provides good enough performance, it's a steal! (It has all the features of B210, plus full UHD compatibility).$2338 vs $1099

Anyone here has used RFNM before?.I'm looking for detailed unbiased reviews. (If you don't know what it is: it's a modular RF/SDR platform, where you have a motherboard with multiple choices of daughterboards. Apparently they only have 1 daughterboard for sale at the moment)
