I am a 8th grade history teacher at HISD. I believe every single student is capable of great things as long as 1 person believes they can do it.

I have really pushed my students to be responsible for learning. Guiding questions but having them read and learn before I reinforce content has been a game changer! And easily to level for different students.

Flipped the teaching to the kiddos. Read the passage, annotate in small groups then write notes on the board and wrap up as a whole class discussion! They enjoy not listening to me all class and really dive into the content. @CiaHallsville @SSSuccess1

Review for reform using @SSSuccess1. Students first used their ideas to review people of reform. After I passed out the quotes and pictures to add. Really enjoyed this! Lots of student thinking!

My students created memory sheets for the semester exam. Practice for STAAR. We do it by unit usually. This time they had to create for 1st semester. #Practice @HallsvilleJH

Today was Qar of 1812. Warm up with a picture, then kids read a section and discussed what was important in small groups. Kids summarized the causes and events as a whole. #studentled #smallgroups @HallsvilleJH

Tried a little bit of @eduprotocols introducing Adam and Jefferson's presidency. "What questions do you have about the picture?" To pair reading and then summarizing the info. Finally use the reading to answer the ?s from the pictures. @HallsvilleJH @CiaHallsville @eduprotocols

Articles of Confederation block activity! Build the biggest and strongest castle to protect the country. But 1 group had less blows and no one would share. Told the kids the small group of blocks was in charge of protecting us! That is why the articles were weak. #articleblocks
