Since 2010, Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise (METGE), with support from the Welsh Government through @sizeofwales, has distributed 25 million trees to communities across the Mount Elgon region. To celebrate this achievement, we are organizing celebrations on 25th/October/2025.

With Support from @AdmiralLife , we will see the restoration of 44 hectares of the degraded strip of the park, reinforcing efforts to restore biodiversity, build climate resilience, and improve community livelihoods .

Together with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) , the Bulambuli District and community groups have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as firm commitment by all parties to safeguard the park, halt tree cutting, and work towards the restoration of the park.@sizeofwales

This effort builds on our progress in Ganzo Mayiyi, where we have already restored 108 hectares along the park boundary under Tree Planting for Improved Livelihoods Project.

We conducted a joint monitoring exercise with our partners Spark Microgrants in Bulambuli to follow up on the trees distributed to farmers. It was inspiring to see how these trees are thriving and contributing to restoration and climate resilience in our communities. @sizeofwales

Her steady rise to leadership reflects the transformative impact of the Gender and Climate Justice Programme, an initiative designed to amplify women’s voices in climate action and ensure their active participation in governance and decision-making.

Earlier in May, she was also elected unopposed as the Women’s League Chairperson for Bumaena, Bukiende Sub-county. In addition to these leadership positions, she continues to serve as the Secretary of the Bumaena Tsotsowana CLA Savings and Loans Association.

Farmers benefit from improved soil fertility and reduced erosion, which boosts crop productivity. Beyond soil health,Calliandra supports sustainable livelihoods. Its bright flowers attract bees, enhancing honey production,while its leaves serve as nutritious fodder for livestock.

The Calliandra plant has been powerful for restoring land and improving livelihoods. Its ability to fix nitrogen naturally enriches the soil, making it ideal for planting along contours, farm boundaries, and degraded areas. @sizeofwales @QuyDavies
