Finally Dazai snapped, yelled at him that he won't be used again because someone's too lazy to study a little. He's more than his intelligence. And Chuuya's genuinely like- "Huh?" because that thought never crossed his mind. Now Dazai's actions make sense.

Dazai made himself unapproachable on purpose. He didn't try anymore, closed himself off. He did the same with Chuuya. Pushed him away, afraid of being used, over and over again. Chuuya saw a challenge. He was determined to win even more. .

Dazai was always a brilliant child, intelligent and always the best grades effortlessly. Kids would try to befriend him for benefit of having a smart friend to cheat on tests/copy homework from. Before he noticed, he pushed people away before really getting to know them+.
