How common is an extra ear forming at the flag axil in wheat?.Finding a few of these in some late emerging tillers. Might be the missing piece in those hyper yielding trials 😝 @kentonp_ag

Analysing recent rainfall trends for Wilmington (Flinders Ranges, SA). Concerning if this continues. Unfortunately the dryer winters/springs also lead to increased frost occurrence and severity, limiting how early we can push the flowering window. (Records date back to 1900)

Last years SARDI break crop trial @ Wilmington showing up in Y2. Nothing visual between plot treatments, but the chem-fallowed trial border & interplots are on the juice! Another nice example of what a little extra stored moisture can do. #Harvest18

2 years ago this paddock went just under 10x this seasons yield. I guess the slogan the old man put on the tippers back then pretty much sums it up #norainnograin #Harvest18

Stubble retention such an incredibly important part of the system. Negative effects from a bushfire in 2016 still showing up on this block. Lentils 2017, Wheat 2018. Will likely be the difference between harvesting and not this season.

94.8mm growing season rainfall to date (Wilmington, SA). Below is the result of sifting through 140years of data, selecting only <Decile2 APR-JUL seasons. Statistically looks a genuine toss of the coin prospect. 🎲♠ . Note - the lowest AUG-OCT rainfall on record=11.2mm (2006)

The recovery of these Red Gums since the Sept 2016 "superstorm" is quite spectacular. Still enough firewood on the deck to last 10 lifetimes!
