After running up/downstairs to get a book for a customer and presenting her with it she said ‘oh actually I’ll just get it on Amazon’, then took a photo of it and handed it back to me.

I drew our shop for a totebag design.
Books have been proudly sold on this site since 1848.
We have ghosts, three floors of books and a shop dog called Heidi. We are currently undergoing a fancy full shop refit.

I was fully using the toilet when a teacher started knocking on the door demanding ‘who’s in there please? Did you have permission to go to the toilet by yourself?’ before just fully peering in at me over the too small door.

A customer asked if we do a gift wrapping service? I said that we don’t but I’m happy to give it a go if she wanted to buy some paper.
After I handed over the wrapped book she said it’s a good job we don’t offer it as a service.

A lady asked to speak to the manager, as I was the most senior member of staff in the building I said that would be me.
She said ‘I find it hard to believe that someone like yourself is the manager’
It turned out the person like myself was wearing a jumper with a racoon on it.

For a while now I’ve heard my neighbour shouting at a poorly behaved someone called Angela through the walls.
I’ve just met Angela on the stairwell and she is a 2 year old dachshund.

When the bus doors opened I took out my mask I’d hurriedly grabbed and shoved in my pocket. As I was hooking it over my ears I was like oh no I think this mask might be pants.
The bus driver confirmed it for me by laughing so hard I’m going to have to take 3 days off work.

It’s taken me a couple of days to share this, mainly because I’m not sure you’re not going to believe I had to phone a petrol station to let them know I was stuck in their car wash. I couldn’t get out to fetch help because it was jammed on a steady jet of hot wax for 15 mins.

Matthew is another one of our booksellers who reads widely and based on his choices from this year will have a recommendation for you from any genre. This year his pile is a mix of literary fiction and thrillers; as long as it has an engaging immersive narrative, he is sold.
