My favourite nature moment of 2021. Not really because of the huge numbers of Jersey Tiger Moth seen, more so because it was shared with my wife & daughter. Family 💚

Look at this incredible image of a dragonfly that’s fallen victim to a fungal attack. The fungus possibly induced the dragonfly to perch up high & then die, thus helping the fungus spread it’s spores.
📸Photo from South Vietnam, photographers name bottom right.
It hovers, it hums, it's the amazing Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).
If you don't love this moth I don't know how to help you.

Swallowtail on Sea Squill in Greece 🇬🇷
If you like regular nature images in your timeline do feel free to follow (hoping to reach 4K followers by Christmas) 😎
Oleander Hawk-moth is my star find of the day here in Greece! Freshly minted and maximum gorgeousness! Perched low on a small Oleander, so presumably just emerged from the ground. Phone pic - should I go back with the SLR and macro lens? 🤔

It is *always* the fault of the individual who drop the litter. How come I’ve never dropped a piece of litter in my life? Because I was raised properly by decent people. Those who litter are low quality humans, no other explanation for it.
Good morning. My favourite butterfly in all the world is the Peacock and the world needs more of its technicoloured dreamcoat colour right now I think..

Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum).
With up to 70 wing beats per second these fast fliers produce an audible hum. They’re a great moth to watch and admire, but can be hard work to photograph.

Look at the long elegant legs of the Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon) helping her effortlessly flutter over small flowers to feed on their sugary nectar.
Swallowtail on Sea Squill (Drimia aphylla) snapped this morning at a site near my home. Was just testing out a new 100-400 lens & this was a great subject for that! Promising start & a useful lens for fast skittish things like these and dragonflies.

Good evening. I don't know about yours, but my timeline is usually peppered like lead shot with bad and depressing news. I keep trying to fill the holes with photos of nature, beauty in an ugly world if you will. Here then is a female Lesser Fiery Copper, photographed today in 🇬🇷
Anyone got that Friday feeling? I haven’t, so here’s something bright and cheery, which I hope brightens your feed today..
Male Lesser Fiery Copper (Lycaena thersamon) in Greece 🇬🇷

Not all butterflies are boldly coloured. Take this Mallow Skipper (Carcharodus alceae) for example. It’s not dull or boring though is it? Just different.
A closer look at the underside of a Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) reveals that it is in fact an exquisite masterpiece from nature..
That is what I was thinking as I took this, whilst some other photographers gave sniggering looks at me, spending time & effort on 'a common one'.
