Russell Wilson finally said "enough" after a recent swipe by Sean Payton. Good for him, columnist @Matt_Calkins writes.
seattletimes.com
For three years Russell Wilson was quiet as ex-players and others turned him into a human piñata. But he said "enough" after a recent swipe by Sean Payton.

One question for a team that came back to Seattle two wins from franchise history: Is this really how you want to go out? @matt_calkins column:

The Mariners' mantra after taking a 2-0 lead in the ALCS was "job's not finished." Only problem is, since coming back home, they've played as though it already was.

Game 5 tested Mariners fans in just about every way. But this was the Mariners moment and they weren't losing. And maybe, just maybe, it's their year, columnist @Matt_Calkins writes.

My pleasure. TESnation makes a lot more sense now.
@SeaTimesSports @Matt_Calkins Thank you Matt, on behalf of myself and my family for sharing this story. Honored to be back in the NCAA tourney with the Rams and competing in a place that feels like hometown soil. Go Rams!

DK Metcalf eliminated his propensity for 15-yard penalties last season, but a skirmish during Wednesday's Seahawks practice showed that his head is still hot. Column by @Matt_Calkins:

ICYMI: Why the public perception of DK Metcalf should be reevaluated
seattletimes.com
DK Metcalf is never going to be a candidate for the Art Rooney Award, but he also isn’t a walking 15-yard penalty incessantly on the brink of sinking his team, writes columnist Matt Calkins.

Jamal Adams doubles (and triples, and quadruples) down. Has he used up all of his good will?
seattletimes.com
Seahawks safety Jamal Adams deleted a recent X post about a former New York Jets reporter and his wife but appears to have no regrets.

Louisville averaged 32.8 points per game this seasonheading into tonight. FSU held them to 6. But the ‘Noles are out because they didn’t look the part? Not buying that.

I just don’t think you can justify keeping an undefeated Power 5 team out, especially after a double-digit win in the conference title game. The committee should only consider achievement, not projection. And ‘Bama lost to Texas by 10 at home. Still, impossible choice for CFP.

Two things can be true at once: 1) Bama would likely be the favorite to win the title if it gets in, while Florida State would be the least threatening. 2) ‘Bama should be out, while FSU and Texas should be in.

Why Michael Penix Jr. is getting my Heisman vote.
seattletimes.com
LSU's Jayden Daniels has emerged as the Heisman Trophy favorite, but Michael Penix Jr.'s performances for Washington in the big games all season means he gets my vote.

If you were expecting contrition for prompting yet another emotionally-charged penalty last Sunday, you got the opposite from DK Metcalf.

Column, ICYMI: Seahawks QB Geno Smith is in the midst of a worrying trend.

It's becoming clearer why the Seahawks signed Geno Smith to such a team-friendly deal that, maybe, just maybe, ends after this season.

Column: Michael Penix Jr. has his Heisman moment Saturday and is now the clear-cut favorite to win the trophy.
seattletimes.com
Michael Penix Jr. has an arm that's shaking up college football and a hand that doesn't shake. After leading a come-from-behind win over Oregon, he may well be college football's best player.

UW bouncing for the Big Ten was the only viable option if the intent is to stay financially viable and relevant in football’s national-championship picture, writes @Matt_Calkins.

Though some fans might be thinking "the Huskies are freakin' gone?!" after reports of a move to the Big Ten conference, they should be thinking "let's freakin' go!"

Shohei Ohtnai’s WAR jumped from 8.0 to 8.7 last night. He is now on pace for 12.8 — the highest since Babe Ruth exactly 100 years ago.

Column: Julio Rodriguez has helped the Mariners overall this season, but he’s been the antithesis of clutch. The numbers back it up
seattletimes.com
The 2023 version of Julio Rodriguez is different than last year. Yeah, he's played well, but in clutch moments, the reigning Rookie of the Year has struggled to deliver, writes columnist Matt...

Mariners fans impressed Shohei Ohtani with their three-word recruiting pitch Tuesday. Maybe, just maybe, it planted a free-agency-signing seed.
seattletimes.com
Fans' “Come to Seattle” chants to Shohei Ohtani might go down as just a memorable moment. Or maybe they'll be viewed as the seeds that led to a huge signing.
