Accepting EU rules and taxes was always bad for UK jobs and growth. They took most of our fish, took huge sums from taxpayers, helped rip up our orchards and grow less food, kept us short of milk quota, forced up energy costs to close some of our industry.

In the 20 years before joining Europe in 1972 UK growth averaged 3.4%. Our first 20 years in the customs union and EEC halved that to 1.7%. Growth fell a bit more in the 28 years from 1992 in the over regulated and taxed single market. Why go back there?

The government is bringing the UK into line with the poor performing EU as it plans the re set sell out. Today will see us get up to EU levels of unemployment as we continue with EU style slow growth and no growth. Why do they want this bad outcome?

What shocks is not the vote-rigging, but the blatancy. At the same time that Labour is cancelling local elections it expects to lose, it is altering the franchise for future general elections.

There was never any credible legal threat to British sovereignty over the Chagos Islands. The government is undermining the national interest for purely ideological reasons. The surrender must be stopped.

The Starmer re set with the EU undermines our democracy, rides roughshod over the referendum and will make the UK poorer. Why does he want us to be told what to do by Brussels, whilst paying them to make us a colony?
