“Where are Malaysians grads from Oxford, Harvard, Imperial etc.?” . . It’s sad to see many Malaysian STEM talents don’t receive the opportunity and recognition they deserve 🥲

A Malaysian building deep tech and going global—a different breed. Shoutout to Razlan and @MattKamil
Never get tired of winning 💪 At @ApheliaSpace we're stoked to be in cohort of the @ESRIC_lu Start-up Support Programme. We're develeoping wireless power infrastructure for lunar applications, and tackling terrestrial defense and commercial markets with RF-based solutions.

In the end, I'm no one. Just a young Malaysian who strives to have a meaningful life of my own. I'm not perfect and I'm always learning. And I believe that's what life is. You live and you learn.

7) Bonus tip: One thing I've learned is the higher you go, the more narcissists you'll meet. Learning how to navigate around them is actually way way more crucial than you think. And if you're good, you can use it to your advantage. If you know you know. haha.

6) Do market validation 1st before building your technology. Deeptech is extremely expensive. Make sure to ask your potential customers, if will they buy your product once it's completed & what are the specific specs they need. You might spend years working on the wrong thing.

5) 1st 10 hires will either make you or kill you I've seen many founders make this mistake. Hiring people who don't align with the mission or don't know what it takes to work in a startup. & it's better to provide stock options for early hires so they own a part of the company

4) Join programs related to your industry So many great founders have gotten bad advice from joining the wrong programs. Every industry has its own unique set of challenges. You can't use the same strategy for fintech for Agritech. For us, we only join international programs.

3) Have a short-term and long-term technology development plan It's good to be ambitious and aim for the moon (for us literally!). But you need to generate revenue in the short term as well. For us, our technology can also be transferred to the Defence Industry

2) Good relationship between your co-founders. People actually underestimate how important this is. You'll be working & meeting with them A LOT! You will argue & have disagreements so it's better if they are people you are really comfortable with & have known for a long time.

1) Find a good mentor who has actually done it Make sure that the mentor in the early stage ACTUALLY helps you (better if they help secure customers or contracts) and even better if they are hands-on as well. If the advisor is to get any shares it should only be (0.5% - 1%).

I have been running a Deep Tech Space startup in Malaysia for 2 - 3 years. These are the lessons and mistakes that I made so you guys don't have to: This is a thread 🧵

Malaysia has a lot of ambitious talents who have big aims but never had the chance to work on something impactful. So we are opening this opportunity to those who want to work on something crazy! Share in case any of your friends need this 🙏 P.S. The benefits are pretty good

This will create more billionaires than the internet boom: 2010: $50,000 to send 1kg to space 2024: $100 Soon: $10 But everyone's focused on the wrong thing. The real opportunity isn't in launches - it's in what comes after:
