This past March during my semester abroad in England, I took the train to Paris for a conversation with @FranceTerps about Europeâs growing football fanbase and the challenges of being a fan across the Atlantic. Really fun story to write. Check it out: https://t.co/gSPAiqFEYb

Buzz Williams had to rebuild Maryland men's basketball's roster from scratch. His emphasis on being a "human coach" helped him do so. âď¸:@RyanAlonardo

The Terpsâ new head coach has a human-centered style that won over a diverse group of newcomers.

Also made it very clear he's not going to give injury updates to the media unless it's required by the conference. So don't expect much from us on that front this season.

Buzz Williams alluded to a Maryland injury occurring today, prior to the scrimmage. Didn't say who â Myles Rice, Isaiah Watts and Diggy Coit all didn't play and don't have previously known injuries. "As of this time last night, we had more healthy bodies than we did at tip off."

Pharrel Payne is doing whatever he wants against UMBC. Mobile enough to handle the ball, physical enough to dominate inside and crafty enough to finish in a variety of ways. UMBC is UMBC, but at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds, Payne is big enough to do this against better competition.

Maryland is missing Solomon Washington and its top three guards, so big grain of salt from today. Biggest thing to take away is Pharrel Payne(15pts, 5rebs in 15 mins) is going to be a force. Really mobile for his size and solid on defense.
Halftime thoughts from Maryland and UMBCâs exhibition: - Pharrel Payne is the best player on the court and itâs not close - Darius Adams and Andre Mills are flashy - Lot to be desired on defense - Elijah Saunders not showing much - No clear backup center behind Payne

Not what Maryland fans want to see. Zion Elee has previously said heâs shut down his recruitment.
Zion Elee (@D1zion26), the 5-star edge who's currently committed to Maryland, is at Williams-Brice Stadium today. Per the 247 Composite Rankings, he's No. 2 player in 2026 class.

Buzz Williams on whoâs brought him up to speed on the history of Maryland basketball: âEverybody Iâve met. Thatâs the first thing they tell me after they tell me their name and when they graduated from here.â

Buzz Williams said what head coaches did in 2006 translates "very little" to what they have to do in the current day. "I still love being around people ... I haven't not been on a team since I was in 4th grade. I'm a little fearful of how I would handle not being on a team."

Difficult for Maryland to take many positives from this game. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Bryce McFerson is a VERY good punter. Obviously a position you never want to rely on, but having him around in the field position battle will help keep Maryland in games.

Michael Locksley is the Big Ten's fourth longest-tenured head coach. Those four coaches' records against Big Ten opponents: Ryan Day: 50-5 Kirk Ferentz: 131-89 PJ Fleck: 37-37 Locksley: 17-43 There's good reasons for Locksley's leash being as long as it is. But man.

Really hard to understate how crushing of a loss this is for Maryland. Another year, another season that's fallen apart when the month of October begins. The Terps are running out of answers for how to fix it. My recap from the Rose Bowl press box: https://t.co/ZVW56X3Qm3

The Terps lose their third straight game after leading with under five minutes remaining.

Michael Locksley emphasized Marylandâs three previous losses have come by a combined 10 points. Wants to go forward asking âwhat can we do to get betterâ instead of âwhy this keeps happeningâ. âWhy is a victim question. Iâm not a victim.â

Three weeks ago, Maryland was 4-0 on the verge of breaking through as a program. Three straight crushing, last-minute losses later, itâs no longer a sure thing Maryland even makes a bowl game.

Jalil Farooq's first touchdown of the season couldn't have come at a better time. We're tied 17-17 with 40 seconds to go. Backup kicker Ryan Capriotti converts what was unquestionably the most stressful extra point of his life. How can you not be romantic about football?
Defensive holding gives Maryland 1st-and-goal from the 8-yard line. 44 seconds to go. 17-10 UCLA. What a game. Hold onto your seats.
