A bolide is a meteor that explodes upon entry of our atmosphere. They are extremely bright and are often referred to as fireballs. The trail you see at the end of it is called the 'persistent train' which scientists believe is caused by ionising gases in the upper atmosphere.

I forget if this is mentioned in the film, do they just happen to have an identical mountain range/canyon system like near the enemy base right outside their training grounds? I get the latter part is simulated but the first bit confused me.
