For anyone sitting the MAT. Some advice. Learn some basic combinatorics. Despite this not “officially” being in the specification it turns up very often and is helpful to have a basic grasp of. Learn the basics such as the choose function, what a permutation is, the Pigeonhole.

Another day another MAT Problem. - be careful with when then the logarithm function is actually defined (its domain).- again just a case of using log laws (make sure you know these). #mat #oxbridge #education #problem #STEM

Study Time Series Analysis. Seriously beneficial area of mathematics to appreciate. Very useful for predicting Market Trends, stock prices and understanding Market Volatility. Certainly worth knowing for those looking to invest wisely!.#StockMarket #crypto #investing

Speed running a MAT Problem. Some things to take away.- Understanding the form of a Polynomial with repeated roots is very useful. - Forming simultaneous equations using two different bits of given information and solving for an unknown or parameter is very common. #mat #math

Solving another MAT Problem. Some key points:.- Always draw a sketch when integrating.- Being able to confidently find the intersection of two curves is key!. #math #Admissionstest #oxford #education #study #ProblemSolving

The fact you can filter the problems is so useful. Suppose you need to prepare for MAT. You know certain topics will always come up. Use the filter to STEP I & said topic to tailor your prep for the MAT without burning through past papers.

The Best Resource for Preparing for Admissions Tests. This in my opinion is arguably the best resource for preparing for Mathematics Admissions Tests. The Step Database. Why?.- Every single STEP problem ever in once place.- Can filter my STEP Paper .- Can filter by topic.

- Our people are the envelopes. - There are more envelopes than Pigeonholes. - Then by the Pigeonhole Principle, at least two people will have the same number of hairs on their head. #ProblemSolving #math #maths #study #education #problem.

The Pigeonhole Principle - why there are 2 people in London with the same number of hairs. - 9 million is the population of London. - No one has more than 200,000 hairs (generously). - Take the Pigeonholes to be the different # of hairs (0 to 200,000).

Hard truth. You cannot fake Mathematical Aptitude. Unlike the arts. You either can or cannot provide a solution. If you aren't good enough you will be found out on these admissions tests. #math #study #mathematics #ProblemSolving #education #learn.

- Work with someone else who is preparing for MAT. This will save you a lot of time, and give insights to how other people approach problems. - Don't neglect the multiple choice section. This is 40% of the paper. Make sure you can get this done quickly and aim to get at least.

- From mid September practice to timings. Anything you do not have time to do, do in another colour and mark. This way you can see how much you need to improve your timings and also get to use all the available questions.

How I would prepare for the MAT in 2024.- Practice up until mid September not worrying too much about timings, improve skillset, problem solving and intuition. Also use TMUA for multiple choice prep as well as STEP for the longer problems. Use Past Papers from MAT (start with the.

Solving a MAT Problem. There are some key lessons from this. - Look to use Difference of Two Squares wherever possible in MAT Problems, it’s a common trick they like to use, and as soon as I saw this problem I was looking to use DO2S.

TMUA Advice. - Prioritise preparation for the logic section. This is very different to anything in the A Level. Act accordingly. Spend time learning basic logic, truth tables etc. #TMUA #admissionstest #logic #oxbridge #math #study #education.
