Same model (HRRR), 2 consecutive runs show how tricky it is to forecast convectively-driven threats. One shows bullseye over central NJ while the other drops half a foot of rain in Union County where flash flooding turned deadly just 2 weeks ago. Heed ALL warnings today. #Flood

Dangerous situation unfolding in NJ! Wouldn’t be surprised to see a Flash Flood Emergency soon for Union County. I-78 is closed near Plainfield along with Route 22 where “vehicles are stranded in floodwaters.”. 4”+ rain in circled area with no sign of it letting up soon. #NJwx

Horrible trend in tonight’s forecast for the Texas Hill Country with life-threatening flash flooding likely in storm-ravaged towns still reeling from the July 4th disaster. Anyone in low-lying areas should move to higher ground now given the sensitivity of local landscape. #TXwx.

Today's 5% Tornado Risk is Portland, Oregon's highest tornado threat ever issued by the SPC and the farthest northwest we've seen such an outlook in the CONUS. A rare event for the Pacific Northwest, indeed. 🌪️

🚨 Extremely rare ***HIGH RISK*** issued for tomorrow’s expected tornado outbreak in the South. This is only the 3rd time EVER that the SPC has issued a Day 2 High Risk with the last issuance 13 years ago. A dangerous, historic event is becoming increasingly likely. 🌪️

This morning's *Day 3 Moderate (level 4/5) Risk* is the first of its kind in 3 YEARS. The last time the Storm Prediction Center issued this level of a risk three days out was on March 22, 2022. The region included in that level 4/5 zone is eerily similar to Saturday's outlook.

With a multiday severe weather outbreak beginning Friday, several parameters sound the alarm in terms of storm mode and potential. Energy Helicity Index is one often used in forecasting tornadoes as it combines convective energy & shear. Saturday is off the charts in the South.
