For anyone listening into #dotnetconf, I've setup a custom feed on Bluesky to curated the chatter, it's a more algorithmic way of viewing what's going on so you don't get bombarded with people posting screenshots every 30 seconds.

In case anyone is interested, I'm mostly posting on BlueSky now, come see me over there. I'll probably check-in over here from time to time, but don't bank on it.

I like to look at the comments for the labour tweets, it tells me whether there are any new complaints than pensioners and immigration (the first is not great, obviously). Like, if those are the only things they can come up with. .

What icon/image comes to mind when you think about Logs/spans/metrics?. I think spans, is an easy one (mini-waterfall diagram), and a metric would be a graph trending up or a gauge. But what about a log? what's the thing?.

I'd like to submit a complaint to trading standards about "Adulthood". There was no mention of having to do your own finances, budgeting, maintaining a home, a family etc. This feels like false advertising, please point me to Adulthood's manager.

People who use languages other than dotnet, how common is it that "structured" logging frameworks output a body that looks like. "Request Received for {url} from {ip}". The important part being the {} bits that have the property name, not the property value?.

Install SDK.Install vscode.dotnet new webapi. What more is there to it?. If you want to overcomplicate your project structure you can do that in any language, and you can also keep it clean. What worse, to me, is that this guy knows that (check his blog) this is for clicks.

Tell me you don't actually keep up with technology advances without saying that. And he has a youtube channel. I'd be wary of subscribing to that, considering he can't get the basics right. Doesn't seek like a bad guy, but misinformation for clicks is really a bad thing.

I don't know who needs to hear this but (well I do). Recreating an external dependency locally because "they have CVEs and keep updating so we can't keep up" is a bad idea. Just because you write it, doesn't mean it doesn't have CVEs, I just means you have to detect and fix them.

My singular claim to fame. our family's name is next to Ariana Grande as supporters of Manchester Children's Hospital in their new roof top garden. Such a great cause and one that's really important to us. The doctors and (just as important) nurses are amazing!

Hitting "reply-all" on an email chain is like farting in public. If you have a title that says "I'm good at computers", and you still do it when there are numerous replies saying stop it. then I don't think you're very good at computers. This is not a hypothetical situation.

If you're following along, here's the github issue. It's ranty, but not nearly as bad as it was. this is just bad.

Sure it looks "mostly ok", but without the structure of causality, we're basically back at logs. Which I suppose is why a lot of people say tracing isn't useful. There are semantics to tracing like Parent/Child, context propagation, and root spans for a reason.
