Conserving genetic diversity in endangered species is a challenge. The Vancouver Island marmot chromosome level reference genome developed by @CGEnSeq will make it possible for us better conserve genetic diversity, which will improve long term survival of our favorite marmot!.

Getting to this stage has not been easy - our work includes conservation breeding and releases, translocations, supplemental feeding, habitat restoration, and monitoring.

Our 2024 Annual Report is out! This was a milestone year for the critically endangered Vancouver Island marmot. A record number of wild marmots was recorded - the highest in at least 45 years.
