Last weekend, I had the good fortune of meeting Kimono mom at the Irvine farmer's market. We bought her umami sauce too and I can't wait til I use it in my own cooking.

Glad today isn't as hot as yesterday. Still hot, but I'll take what I can get.

I hope everyone at Anime Expo is having a good time. When I used to go to the con, it was really about Gundam shopping for me.

For whoever is wondering, the picture in my banner is the view from Miyajima Island from when we went to Japan a while back. I hope to go back soon!.

I find that I can get into a zen state when working out at the gym, now, if only musical ideas would come to me while I'm working out. Maybe that's a bad idea, no studio with me at that time.

One of these days, I'll actually take the time to deeply learn sound design. I feel I'm way too shallow with it. I would love to design my own sounds one day.

I love cover production but I don't copy the cover verbatim. I like to follow the original spirit of the cover but through the lens of my own musical experience. It's helpful that those I've worked with also had their own takes on covers. It's an enriching experience.

Sheet music has made cover production so much faster. I'm not having to guess notes when the definitive version is in front of me.

An often missed part of production is gain staging, of which a large of it is ensuring a sound is loud enough without causing distortion for the next processor in the mix chain.

I think that a musically well arranged piece makes mixing easier. You don't have to be "fixing things in the mix", which is one of the worst approaches to production.

One of the most difficult things in arranging is balancing clarity and density. You run the risk of the song being too cluttered or too sparse. Unless that's what you were going for.

I was sick for a while so I haven't been able to practice singing. I think I'll try today, see how that goes. Good thing I don't sing for a living haha.

Last weekend, took the in-laws to eat at Golden Corral as a late Father's day present of sorts. It was fine, not really good with buffets, but I enjoyed it.

I look forward to visiting home during the Winter. If I could afford it, I would just winter all year round. I may do some more travel music montages on my channel.

Man, it's definitely heating up where I am, good thing I have other places I can complete music other than my studio. I don't normally like producing music on my laptop, but sometimes I have no choice.

My most recent acquisitions were Cubase and Serum to add some synth-y stuff to my lineup, as I normally work with traditional instruments. But it is very easy to be tempted (in my case) when other companies have great offers.

I should play my early 1900s Upright piano more often. But my dogs hate my playing the piano. One of these days, I'll mic it and record live stuff.

Sad that Samash is closing all its retail stores. I really enjoyed going in there on random occasions to play the various keyboards. I do have my main Keyboard, the Yamaha MODX8, but it was fun to play other brands.

I'm really liking Cubase. I still use Reaper to make my sketches but Cubase has been really good for speeding up my workflow. Unfortunately, I lost the ability for instant transfer of wav files into Melodyne for editing. Unless I'm missing something. .
