I wrote about Indiana sportswriting legend Bob Hammel, who was too nice a guy to say anything about about anybody, including Bob Knight, in this week's @IBJnews.

Bob Hammel might qualify as the biggest homer of all sportswriters in Indiana, if not beyond, during his 30 years as sports editor of the Bloomington Herald-Times (which was named the Daily Herald-...

Every @KingJames hater should read this book. Can’t imagine they will go to that much trouble, but they should. Great perspective.

Hit 18 of 20 free throws for the season as a sophomore in high school. (Lot of teams played zone and I spent a lot of time on the baseline.) I actually hit one more to get over 90% but Gerry Barker committed a lane violation on my last attempt of the season. I’m still bitter.

And now @TyHaliburton22 has achieved the landmark recognition of being a crossword puzzle answer (82 across). I recall Roy Hibbert and Rik Smits receiving the same compliment. Next step: showing up on a Jeopardy episode.

This resembles previous efforts to use the all-star game as a protest vehicle. The NBA players did it in 1964 and the ABA players did it in 1970. In both cases they threatened to boycott a nationally televised game to gain recognition of their union. It worked.

How to spoil a decade of good will in one sentence. But remember, Pacers were willing to trade him to become more competitive. It does work both ways.

Myles Turner with a not so subtle jab towards the Pacers on why he decided to sign with their divisional rival Bucks:. “For me, it was ultimately about just staying competitive. … I saw a chance to remain competitive here.”. A whole new level of spice towards this rivalry now.

I took a look at the Pacers' unfortunate history with injuries - from Clark Kellogg to Tyrese Haliburton and other key players in between - in the latest @IBJnews. Seems they've had worse luck than most.

Kellogg, Stipanovich and Granger didn’t experience specific injuries; they had the misfortune of being stuck with knees with early expiration dates.

Indy sportscasting legend Don Hein has passed away. Was on the air for 40 years at Ch. 13. Was laid off once, but public outcry brought him back. Standout hs basketball player. Played a mean tuba, too. Paywall removed from our One on One conversation.

Seems like Pacers fans are forgetting about Thomas Bryant. I consider him a better option than Bradley over the long run despite Bradley’s minutes in the playoffs. Bryant is at least as much a 3-point threat as Turner and a better rebounder, runner and passer.

He would be good for about 4 more per game than Turner and provide a legit low post threat. Perhaps he would mature, perhaps he would be influenced by the culture of the current group. Even if he's a pain his production would be valuable. Seems worth a franchise-friendly deal.

Deandre Ayton has obvious flaws, or else he wouldn't be available again and wouldn't have already played for two teams despite being the first pick in the draft in 2018. But he has averaged a double-double every season and would address the Pacers' greatest need: rebounding . .

I have compiled some of my social media posts, all the way back to 2019, in a file on my website. Not long enough to qualify as a main course, not short enough to be ignored. Hopefully fulfilling, with some relevance.

Turns out the answer was no. I’m on board with letting him go, particularly in light of Haliburton’s injury. Pacers need to find a rebounder, though.

Can you give Turner the contract he wants when he flames out in the Finals and can only be trusted to play 24 minutes in G7? Interesting dilemma for the front office.

That’s James Wiseman working out at the @Pacers practice facility in April. He suddenly looms larger in their plans, perhaps. He’s an intriguing talent, but hardly proven as a starting caliber center.

It seems @TyHaliburton22 is in virtually the same situation now as Paul George and Oladipo after their unfortunate injuries. Remember how beloved they were? Things changed for them later. I don’t see that happening with Haliburton. Hard to imagine his star ever fading.

Boston, Nembhard averaged 28 pts, 5 rebs, 9.5 asts and 2.5 to's. Can't argue he would be just as effective as Haliburton but the team can still win. The tanking advocates aren't likely to get their wish.
